Skeletal health in DYRK1A syndrome
DYRK1A syndrome results from a reduction in copy number of the DYRK1A gene, which resides on human chromosome 21 (Hsa21). DYRK1A has been implicated in the development of cognitive phenotypes associated with many genetic disorders, including Down ...

Gene dosage effects of amylose content in rice endosperm [PDF]
Seven indica rice varieties with different amylose contents were crossed in all possible combinations including reciprocals. Single grains of parents and F's were analyzed to determine the dosage effects of genes responsible for different amylose ...

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

Chromosome transmission fidelity is vital for organism fitness. Yet, extrinsic and intrinsic changes can affect this process, leading to aneuploidy, the loss/gain of chromosomes, which is a hallmark of cancer.

Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Gene dosage and mutational analyses of EGFR in oligodendrogliomas
We have studied amplification/gene-dosage and sequence variations of the EGFR gene in 41 oligodendroglial tumours graded according to the WHO classification (21 oligodendrogliomas grade II, 13 oligodendrogliomas grade III and 6 oligoastrocytomas grade II-III), using multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA), real-time quantitative PCR ...

Positive selection underlies Faster-Z evolution of gene expression in birds.
The elevated rate of evolution for genes on sex chromosomes compared to autosomes (Fast-X or Fast-Z evolution) can result either from positive selection in the heterogametic sex, or from non-adaptive consequences of reduced relative effective population ...

We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Effect of enzymic gene dosage on the distant hybridization of fishes
Three kinds of abnormal isozymic expression, paternal allele being inhibited, delay in parental gene activations and preferential gene expression of the maternal allele, occur in diploid hybrids between distant parents.
