GSTT1 deletion is related to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons-induced DNA damage and lymphoma progression.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The interrelationship between genetic susceptibility and carcinogenic exposure is important in cancer development. Polymorphisms in detoxification enzymes of the glutathione-S-transferases (GST) family are associated with an increased incidence of ...

Non-equilibrium dynamics of gene expression and the Jarzynski equality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In order to express specific genes at the right time, the transcription of genes is regulated by the presence and absence of transcription factor molecules. With transcription factor concentrations undergoing constant changes, gene transcription takes place out of equilibrium.

The PTTG1/VASP axis promotes oral squamous cell carcinoma metastasis by modulating focal adhesion and actin filaments

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
VASP was found to be overexpressed in metastatic oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues. Notably, PTTG1‐ and VASP‐deficient OSCC cells demonstrated suppressed metastatic properties by disrupting the interaction between the cytoskeleton and focal adhesion (FAs) in the filopodia region.

Effect of STX5 on the metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma and its mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes精准医学杂志
Objective To investigate the effect of STX5 on the metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its mechanism. Methods Clinical data were collected from 36 patients who were diagnosed with HCC in our hospital from January to December 2015, and the ...

Combined analysis of murine and human microarrays and ChIP analysis reveals genes associated with the ability of MYC to maintain tumorigenesis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2008
The MYC oncogene has been implicated in the regulation of up to thousands of genes involved in many cellular programs including proliferation, growth, differentiation, self-renewal, and apoptosis.

Obesity alters the fitness of peritumoral adipose tissue, exacerbating tumor invasiveness in renal cancer through the induction of ADAM12 and CYP1B1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor microenvironment drives cancer formation and progression. We analyzed the role of human cancer‐associated adipocytes from patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) stratified as lean, overweight, or obese. RNA‐seq demonstrated that, among the most altered genes involved in the tumor–stroma crosstalk, are ADAM12 and CYP1B1, which were proven to be ...

Claudin-1 Expression Is Elevated in Colorectal Cancer Precursor Lesions Harboring the BRAF V600E Mutation

open access: yesTranslational Oncology, 2014
BACKGROUND: Sessile serrated adenomas/polyps (SSA/P) are now recognised precursors of colorectal cancer (CRC) including cancers harbouring somatic BRAF (V600E) mutations.

MAGE I transcription factors regulate KAP1 and KRAB domain zinc finger transcription factor mediated gene repression. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Class I MAGE proteins (MAGE I) are normally expressed only in developing germ cells but are aberrantly expressed in many cancers. They have been shown to promote tumor survival, aggressive growth, and chemoresistance but the underlying mechanisms and ...

SimpleChrome: Encoding of Combinatorial Effects for Predicting Gene Expression [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Due to recent breakthroughs in state-of-the-art DNA sequencing technology, genomics data sets have become ubiquitous. The emergence of large-scale data sets provides great opportunities for better understanding of genomics, especially gene regulation.

Negative Feedback and Physical Limits of Genes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical Biology 248:1 (2011) 82-91, 2014
This paper compares the auto-repressed gene to a simple one (a gene without auto-regulation) in terms of response time and output noise under the assumption of fixed metabolic cost. The analysis shows that, in the case of non-vanishing leak expression rate, the negative feedback reduces both the switching on and switching off times of a gene. The noise
