Topoisomerase IIα promotes activation of RNA polymerase I transcription by facilitating pre-initiation complex formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Type II DNA topoisomerases catalyse DNA double-strand cleavage, passage and re-ligation to effect topological changes. There is considerable interest in elucidating topoisomerase II roles, particularly as these proteins are targets for anti-cancer drugs.

Structural insights into the Nipah virus nucleocapsid assembly

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Nipah virus (NiV), a lethal zoonotic henipavirus, poses a major public health threat. Its nucleoprotein (N) safeguards the genome by forming a nucleocapsid, which, together with the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (L) and phosphoprotein (P), constitutes the

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Structural basis of measles virus polymerase inhibition by nonnucleoside inhibitor ERDRP-0519

open access: yesNature Communications
ERDRP-0519 is a potent nonnucleoside inhibitor active against measles virus (MeV) and other Morbilliviruses. Here we report cryo-EM structures of the compound bound to MeV polymerase complexes at 2.73 Å and 2.48 Å resolution, revealing a unique binding ...

Overexpression of AHL proteins enhances root hair production by altering the transcription of RHD6‐downstream genes

open access: yesPlant Direct, 2023
AT‐HOOK MOTIF NUCLEAR LOCALIZED (AHL) proteins occur in all sequenced plant species. They bind to the AT‐rich DNA sequences in chromosomes and regulate gene transcription related to diverse biological processes.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Transcriptional Pulsing of a Developmental Gene [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2006
It has not been possible to view the transcriptional activity of a single gene within a living eukaryotic cell. It is therefore unclear how long and how frequently a gene is actively transcribed, how this is modulated during differentiation, and how transcriptional events are dynamically coordinated in cell populations.

Mutational analysis of the gene start sequences of pneumonia virus of mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The transcriptional start sequence of pneumonia virus of mice is more variable than that of the other pneumoviruses, with five different nine-base gene start (GS) sequences found in the PVM genome.

Structure of the measles virus ternary polymerase complex

open access: yesNature Communications
Measles virus (MeV) is a highly contagious pathogen that causes significant morbidity worldwide. Its polymerase machinery, composed of the large protein (L) and phosphoprotein (P), is crucial for viral replication and transcription, making it a promising
