Concordant and Heterogeneity of Single-Cell Transcriptome in Cardiac Development of Human and Mouse

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2022
Normal heart development is vital for maintaining its function, and the development process is involved in complex interactions between different cell lineages. How mammalian hearts develop differently is still not fully understood.

Transcriptional gene silencing in humans [PDF]

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 2016
It has been over a decade since the first observation that small non-coding RNAs can functionally modulate epigenetic states in human cells to achieve functional transcriptional gene silencing (TGS). TGS is mechanistically distinct from the RNA interference (RNAi) gene-silencing pathway.

Photosynthetic Acclimation to Fluctuating Irradiance in Plants

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
Unlike the short-term responses of photosynthesis to fluctuating irradiance, the long-term response (i.e., acclimation) at the chloroplast, leaf, and plant level has received less attention so far.

Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α (HIF-1α) Potentiates β-Cell Survival after Islet Transplantation of Human and Mouse Islets

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 2013
A high proportion of β-cells die within days of islet transplantation. Reports suggest that induction of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) predicts adverse transplant outcomes.

Architecture and RNA binding of the human negative elongation factor

open access: yeseLife, 2016
Transcription regulation in metazoans often involves promoter-proximal pausing of RNA polymerase (Pol) II, which requires the 4-subunit negative elongation factor (NELF).

Consumption of minas frescal cheese may be a source of human infection by Campylobacter jejuni

open access: yesBioscience Journal, 2020
Campylobacter spp. is an emerging pathogen that causes gastroenteritis in humans and the consumption of dairy food can characterize sources of infection.

The Functions of BET Proteins in Gene Transcription of Biology and Diseases

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2021
The BET (bromodomain and extra-terminal domain) family proteins, consisting of BRD2, BRD3, BRD4, and testis-specific BRDT, are widely acknowledged as major transcriptional regulators in biology.

Assessment of Combination Therapy in BALB/c Mice Injected With Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae Strains

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
Monotherapeutic options for carbapenem resistant infections are limited. Studies suggest that combination therapy may be associated with better outcomes than monotherapies. However, this is still controversial.

CDK9 as a Valuable Target in Cancer: From Natural Compounds Inhibitors to Current Treatment in Pediatric Soft Tissue Sarcomas

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2020
Cyclin-Dependent Kinases (CDKs) are well-known reliable targets for cancer treatment being often deregulated. Among them, since the transcription-associated CDK9 represents the sentry of cell transcriptional homeostasis, it can be a valuable target for ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
