Plasmid-mediated gene transfer in neurons using the biolistics technique
Journal of Neuroscience Methods, 1997Biolistics has been developed as a system for gene delivery into plant cells, but has recently been introduced for transfection into mammalian tissue, including few attempts in neural cells. Basically, in this system the plasmid DNA of interest is coated onto small particles, that are accelerated by a particular driving force.

Lipospermine-mediated gene transfer technique into murine cultured cortical cells
Journal of Neuroscience Methods, 1997In order to transfer exogenous DNA into embryonic cortical cells, we have chosen a transfection technique using a synthetic lipospermine (dipalmitoylphosphatidylethanolamylspermine, DPPES) which complexes DNA molecules and allows their penetration into the intracellular compartment.

Techniques of Chromosome-Mediated Gene Transfer
1982Functional genes can be transferred to eukaryotic cells by incubation with isolated metaphase chromosomes. Uptake occurs by phagocytosis and most of the ingested chromosomal DNA is degraded to small inactive fragments. The frequency of transfer of any selected marker ranges from about 10-5 to 10-7.

Gene Transfer Techniques and their relevance to Woody Plants
2000For decades, the concept of foreign DNA transfer into plant cells and its integration into the genome of the recipient cell was an intriguing curiosity (Lurquin, 1977). It was not until the advent of Southern hybridization (Southern, 1975) and the availability of restriction enzymes that the presence of `non-plant’ DNA (in this case, the T-DNA of ...

Development of a Gene Transfer Technique Using AFM
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2003We report on a new low invasive technique for gene transfer of living cells using an ultra thin needle, termed a nano‐needle, comprising part of an etched atomic force microscope (AFM) tip. A silicon AFM tip was sharpened using focused ion beam etching to create an etched Si tip with a small diameter (100 to 200 nm).

Biotechnological methods for targeted gene transfers into plants are key for successful breeding in the twenty-first century and thus essential for the survival of humanity. Two decades ago, genetic transformation of crop plants was not routine, and it was all but impossible with important cereals such as barley and wheat.

Growth Factors and Gene Transfer with DNA Strand Technique in Tendon Healing
Journal of Long-Term Effects of Medical Implants, 2002Growth factors are likely to be critically involved in all aspects of tendon healing and many studies, in vitro and in vivo, have tried to define the role of growth factors in this process, and to determine appropriate strategies for their use in tissue engineering to improve the healing of tendons.

A fluorescence video-endoscopy technique for detection of gene transfer and expression
Gene Therapy, 1998The green fluorescent protein (GFP) has previously been adapted as a reported for gene transfer and expression in mammalian cells in culture and in tissue sections. Herein is described a new method for detecting GFP in situ within epithelia accessible to fiberoptic endoscopy by incorporating fluorescent filters for detection of GFP into an existing ...

Gene Transfer Techniques in Whole Embryo Cultured Post-implantation Mouse Embryos
2013Gene transfer techniques such as electroporation and lipofection are powerful systems for investigating gene function. In this chapter we focus on the methods and applications of gene transfer into specific cells and tissues of post-implantation mouse embryos.

Gene transfer to plants: approaches and available techniques
1993Gene transfer to plants is hampered by a variety of biological problems: the plant cell wall is a perfect barrier and trap for DNA molecules; egg cells, sperm cells and zygotes, are virtually inaccessible; proembryos are extremely small and enclosed within solid tissues; the tiny cells of hidden meristems which contribute to the ‘germline’ may not be ...
