Improvement of diesel engine startability under low temperatures by vortex tubes

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2020
Cold start is one of the most problematic combustion phases for diesel engines. During this phase, a large proportion of pollutants are produced within the cylinder due to misfiring and incomplete combustion due to the low engine temperatures ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Locally linear approximation for Kernel methods : the Railway Kernel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper we present a new kernel, the Railway Kernel, that works properly for general (nonlinear) classification problems, with the interesting property that acts locally as a linear kernel.

Renormalization group equations and matching in a general quantum field theory with kinetic mixing

open access: yes, 2013
We work out a set of simple rules for adopting the two-loop renormalization group equations of a generic gauge field theory given in the seminal works of Machacek and Vaughn to the most general case with an arbitrary number of Abelian gauge factors and ...

Hydrodynamic Modeling for Enhance Water System in Katingan Tidal Lowlands

open access: yesJurnal Teknik Pengairan
A study was conducted on the Katingan tidal lowland area with hydro-topography A and B. The lowland area has good irrigation capability but low drainage capability, resulting in excessive inundation.

Public Values in Water Law: A Case of Substantive Fragmentation?

open access: yesUtrecht Law Review, 2014
Horizontal fragmentation, from a public-values perspective, is a quite well-documented phenomenon in international (water) law. However, the literature does not provide any insight into vertical or substantive fragmentation, i.e.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Intersecting D-brane states derived from the KP theory

open access: yes, 2005
A general scheme to find tachyon boundary states is developed within the framework of the theory of KP hierarchy. The method is applied to calculate correlation function of intersecting D-branes and rederived the results of our previous works as special ...

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.
