The Role of FOS in Gene Regulation
1990The cellular protooncogene FOS is expressed at very low level in most cells of the organism and in most growing cells in culture. The synthesis is rapidly elevated if cells are exposed to one of a large number of agents and conditions. This suggests that FOS is an intermediate in the signal transfer of a variety of different specific genetic responses.

Cell Differentiation and Development, 1988To study the function of proto-oncogene c-fos, we prepared an antisense plasmid that expresses in mammalian cells c-fos antisense RNA which is complementary to the endogenous c-fos mRNA. Upon transfection into undifferentiated F9 EC cells, the antisense plasmid directed constitutive expression of a large amount of c-fos antisense RNA.
