Molecular analysis of myc gene mutants

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B. Biological Sciences, 1985
We describe the generation and characterization of a series of deletion mutants of the avian acute leukaemia virus MC29 which allow the study of the function of the myc in transformation of quail embryo fibroblasts in vitro and tumour induction in vivo . These mutants,

Myc Target Genes in Neoplastic Tranformation

1997
Deregulated expression of the c-myc oncogene as a consequence of specific genetic alterations is sine-qua-non for certain B-cell neoplasms. Dissection of the c-Myc protein over the last decade reveals a structural organization that is characteristic of a transcription factor.

c-myc gene activation and chromosomal translocation

Journal of Cell Science, 1984
ABSTRACT Burkitt’s lymphoma cells are characterized by the presence of specific chromosomal translocation bringing the immunoglobulin and the c-myc proto-oncogenes into the proximity of each other. Different translocations involve each of the three immunoglobulin loci but the breakpoint with respect to the c-myc gene is shown to be very ...

Beyond gene expression: how MYC relieves transcription stress

Trends in Cancer, 2023
MYC oncoproteins are key drivers of tumorigenesis. As transcription factors, MYC proteins regulate transcription by all three nuclear polymerases and gene expression. Accumulating evidence shows that MYC proteins are also crucial for enhancing the stress resilience of transcription.

Relationship of c‐myc gene copy number and gene expression: Cellular effects of elevated c‐myc protein

Journal of Cellular Physiology, 1990
AbstractThe relationship between gene copy number and expression and cellular consequences of elevated levels of c‐myc protein has been investigated using recombinant Chinese hamster ovary cell lines transfected with DNA coding for the murine c‐myc gene.

Expression ofmyc-family,myc-interacting, andmyc-target genes during preimplantation mouse development

Molecular Reproduction and Development, 1997
Previous studies indicated that members of the myc gene family may be essential for preimplantation development. Other studies revealed that preimplantation embryos lacking c-myc, N-myc, or L-myc are viable, indicating that these genes are either not essential for preimplantation development or can be substituted for functionally by other myc gene ...

Conservation of the c-myc coding sequence in transduced feline v-myc genes

Virology, 1986
We have cloned the normal feline c-myc locus and determined the nucleotide sequence of all three exons. The feline c-myc gene shows close homology to other mammalian c-myc genes, particularly human c-myc. The feline and human sequences are colinear within the open reading frame for the putative c-myc product but show insertions and deletions relative ...

c-myc Transactivates the Ornithine Decarboxylase Gene

1992
Several observations suggest that the c-myc proto-oncogene is a key regulator of cell growth and differentiation. First, expression of c-myc RNA and protein is tightly regulated by mitogens and are suppressed by growth inhibitory agents (Luscher and Eisenman, 1991).

Deregulation of the c-myc and N-myc Genes in Transformed Cells

1988
Expression of the c-myc proto-oncogene is regulated by mitogens in a number of cell types, including fibroblasts and lymphoid cells. In growth arrested fibroblasts, serum, epidermal growth factor, or platelet derived growth factor are all capable of inducing c-myc mRNA (Campisi et al., 1984; Kelly et al.,1983).

Expression of c-myc gene in human hepatoma

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1985
The level of c-myc transcript was examined in liver samples from seven hepatoma patients. Transcripts were detected in all the normal liver parts examined; in contrast, in two hepatoma parts, there was a dramatic reduction in c-myc transcripts. The restriction enzyme pattern of c-myc gene appeared the same among samples.
