Phylogenetic analysis and expression patterns of p16 and p19 in Paracentrotus lividus embryos

open access: yes, 2012
P16 and P19 are two small acidic proteins in- volved in the formation of the biomineralized skeleton of sea urchin embryos and adults. Here, we describe the cloning and the embryonic temporal and spatial expression profiles of p16 and p19 mRNAs ...

Targeting hexokinase 2 to induce breast cancer cell senescence

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Hexokinase 2 (HK2) is a key enzyme linked to high tumour cell proliferation. Its inhibitors such as 3‐bromopyruvic acid (3‐BP) induce cancer cell death, highlighting HK2 modulation as potential anti‐cancer treatment. However, standard chemotherapies often cause the emergence of senescent cancer cells, which goes along with cell ...

Correlation between Methylation and Expression Level of P15 and P16 Genes during Differentiation of Cord Blood Stem Cells into Erythroid Lineage Mediated by Erythropoietin

open access: yesNovelty in Biomedicine, 2015
Background: Several influential factors such as transcription factors and intracellular signaling components are involved in differentiation of stem cells into a specific lineage. P15 and p16 proteins are among these factors.

Mechanisms underpinning the progression of nondysplastic Barrett's oesophagus to cancer

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Barrett's oesophagus confers a low but significant cancer risk. The condition is common but we do not have effective biomarkers to identify susceptible patients. We believe that there is no single factor that determines cancer risk and an understanding of the combinations of interactions (via gene expression and natural selection) between the Barrett's

High frequency of p 16 promoter methylation in non-small cell lung carcinomas from Chile

open access: yesBiological Research, 2007
The inactivation of tumour suppressor genes by aberrant methylation of promoter regions has been described as a frequent event in neoplasia development, including lung cancer.

Investigation of P16 gene hypermethylation in serum of gastric cancer patients in Ardabil province [PDF]

open access: yes
Gastric cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the world. There is evidence that shows genetic and epigenetic change in stomach cancer is as a result of a variety of oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, genes that repair the DNA, genes ...

Merkel cell carcinoma: an updated guide for pathologists

open access: yesHistopathology, EarlyView.
Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is an aggressive cutaneous neuroendocrine carcinoma for which the differential diagnosis can include other small cell malignancies (especially metastatic small cell carcinoma) or cutaneous carcinoma. Morphologic and immunophenotypic aberrancies in MCC can increase diagnostic challenge.

Activating senescence in p16-positive Basal-like breast cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
PhDBreast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and Basal-like breast cancer (a highly aggressive subtype) accounts for approximately 8-22% of all cases depending on ethnicity.

Distinct Rb expression pattern in HPV‐associated neuroendocrine carcinomas of the uterine cervix

open access: yesHistopathology, EarlyView.
Most uterine cervical neuroendocrine carcinoma (UCNEC) cases are HPV‐associated and are characterized by partial loss of Rb, p16 overexpression, and cyclin D1 negativity. A minority of UCNECs exhibit a distinct pattern, characterized by HPV negativity, retained Rb expression, focal p16 expression and cyclin D1 positivity.

Integrated chemical profiling, transcriptomics and functional validation elucidate the multifunctional benefits of a triple‐ferment filtrate complex for skin aging intervention

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
Integrated chemical profiling, transcriptomics and functional validation reveal the multifunctional benefits of a triple‐ferment filtrate complex for skin aging intervention. Abstract Objective Skin aging is driven by interconnected hallmarks including oxidative stress and chronic low‐grade inflammation, cellular senescence, impaired epidermal function
