Changes of the p16 gene but not the p53 gene in human chondrosarcoma tissues
International Journal of Cancer, 2000The role of two important tumour suppressor genes, p16 and p53, was evaluated in cartilaginous tumour tissues. Genomic DNA from 22 chondrosarcomas, 5 benign chondroid tumours, 1 sample of reactive proliferative cartilage and 2 samples of normal cartilage were analysed using polymerase chain reaction, single strand conformational polymorphism, DNA ...

Inactivation of the p16 Tumor Suppressor Gene in Adrenocortical Tumors
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1999The mechanisms of adrenocortical tumorigenesis are still unknown. Evidence that the majority of adrenocortical tumors are monoclonal in origin suggests that a progressive accumulation of genetic aberrations, due to activation of protooncogenes and/or inactivation of tumor suppressor genes, leads to abnormal cell proliferation through a multistep ...

Hypermethylation of the p16 gene in nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Cancer research, 1996We have recently reported that inactivation of the p16 gene by mutation and deletion is common in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). The present study demonstrates that hypermethylation of the 5' CpG island can serve as an alternative mechanism for inactivation of the p16 gene in this tumor.

To study the effects of inorganic arsenicals on the methylation of p16 gene CpG islands and the expression of p16 gene in BEP2D cells. The methylation of p16 gene CpG islands and the expression of p16 gene in BEP2D cells were measured by methylation-specific PCR (MSP) and RT-PCR methods.(1) The exposure of the BEP2D cells to sodium arsenite (0.016 ...

p16 gene alterations in nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Cancer research, 1995In order to investigate the p16 gene alterations in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), we have examined for mutations and deletions of the p16 gene in samples of NPC including 3 cell lines, 3 xenografts, and 20 primary tumors with matched blood DNA as controls.

[Alterations of the p16 gene for the carcinogenesis in pancreas].
Zhongguo yi xue ke xue yuan xue bao. Acta Academiae Medicinae Sinicae, 2004Pancreatic cancer is a common malignant neoplasm in digestive tract, which is of unknown etiology as yet. Recent advances in molecular oncology have provided explanations at the DNA level that multiple genetic changes contribute to pancreatic cancer development, in which the p16 locus of tumor tissue is nearly always altered. This tumor suppressor gene,

The aim of the present study was to determine whether p16 gene is involved in the genesis of primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Twenty-five primary HCC tumor and corresponding non-tumor liver tissue specimens were examined for P16 gene alterations.

Quantitative Determination of p16 Gene Expression by RT-PCR
2004In recent years, gene expression quantitation of tumor cells has become of principal importance to analyze gene patterns responsible for cancer development, progression, and resistance to treatment. Whereas semi-quantitative methods, such as Northern blotting analysis, allow only a dichotomous differentiation between positive and negative gene ...
