Localization of the 18S, 5.8S and 28S rRNA genes and the 5S rRNA genes in the babirusa and the white-lipped peccary

The locations of the genes encoding 18S, 5.8S and 28S rRNA and 5S rRNA were studied in two relatives of the domestic pig, the babirusa (Babyrousa babyrussa) and the white-lipped peccary (Tayassu pecari). In the babirusa, the 18S, 5.8S and 28S rDNA is located on chromosomes 6, 8 and 10.

Characterization of 5S rRNA genes from mouse

In order to characterize the transcriptional regulation of the 5S rRNA genes we have isolated a bona fide gene and a pseudogene from mouse cells. These 5S rRNA genes contain a 12-bp sequence designated as the D-box, located in position -33 to -22 bp, and two Sp1-binding sites in the 5'-flanking region.

Microheterogeneity in Aspergillus nidulans 5S rRNA genes

We have determined the sequence of 4 Aspergillus nidulans 5S rRNA genes and compared it with 4 previously established sequences. No extensive homologies are found in 5' flanking sequences, but in the 3' flanks of two genes and two pseudogenes similar sequences are observed. In the coding sequences differences occur in 7 positions.

Through analysis of cloned fragments of N. crassa mitochondrial DNA, we have derived a physical map for the region of the mitochondrial genome which encodes the ribosomal RNAs and most of the tRNAs.
