Alternating polarity in rRNA genes

Cell Biology International Reports, 1978
Spread nucleolar material from A. exigua exhibits an unusual arrangement of rDNA cistrons. The cistrons form head-to-head "diamond-shaped" doublets with a short spacer separating the members of the doublet. Single cistrons are usually terminal and arrange tail-to-tail with the adjacent doublet, suggesting the possibility of a repeating unit with a tail-

5S-rRNA genes in rice embryos

Plant Molecular Biology, 1987
The 5S-rRNA from the ungerminated and 48-h-germinated rice embryos differs from the wheat, rye and maize by two nucleotides. The 48-h-germinated embryos contain another species of 5S-rRNA which differs by 3 nucleotides from the ungerminated embryos, thereby showing the expression of two 5S-rRNA genes during germination. The 5S-rRNA genes are present in

16S rRNA Gene Analysis with QIIME2

2018
Microbial marker-gene sequence data can be used to generate comprehensive taxonomic profiles of the microorganisms present in a given community and for other community diversity analyses. The process of going from raw gene sequences to taxonomic profiles or diversity measures involves a series of data transformations performed by numerous computational

Characterization of 5S rRNA genes from mouse

Gene, 1994
In order to characterize the transcriptional regulation of the 5S rRNA genes we have isolated a bona fide gene and a pseudogene from mouse cells. These 5S rRNA genes contain a 12-bp sequence designated as the D-box, located in position -33 to -22 bp, and two Sp1-binding sites in the 5'-flanking region.

Microheterogeneity in Aspergillus nidulans 5S rRNA genes

Current Genetics, 1987
We have determined the sequence of 4 Aspergillus nidulans 5S rRNA genes and compared it with 4 previously established sequences. No extensive homologies are found in 5' flanking sequences, but in the 3' flanks of two genes and two pseudogenes similar sequences are observed. In the coding sequences differences occur in 7 positions.

Aspergillus nidulans 5S rRNA genes and pseudogenes

Current Genetics, 1986
The sequence of four Aspergillus nidulans 5S rRNA genes and of two pseudogenes has been determined. A conserved sequence about 100 bp upstream of the 5S rRNA coding sequences has been found in three genes and one pseudogene. The two pseudogenes correspond to the 5' half of the 5S rRNA coding sequence and their 3' flanking sequences which are not ...

Environmentally Induced Changes in rRNA Gene Redundancy

Nature New Biology, 1973
HERITABLE changes in plant weight are induced in flax by specific growth environments. Conditioning of the original plastic genotroph (PI) produces a large stable form (L) or a small stable form (S), according to the fertilizers applied1,2. A large number of experiments have shown that the nucleus of the L genotroph contains 16% more DNA than that of S,

News from the nucleolus: rRNA gene expression

Trends in Biochemical Sciences, 1991
Although the typical, actively growing eukaryotic cell contains over 10,000 different transcripts, half of its RNA synthetic capacity is devoted to the production of a single kind of RNA. This is the pre-ribosomal RNA, which is synthesized in a special compartment of the nucleus, the nucleolus, and is the exclusive product of transcription by RNA ...
