Compilation of 5S rRNA and 5S rRNA gene sequences
The BERLIN RNA DATABANK as of December 31, 1987, contains a total of 509 sequences of 5S rRNAs or their genes, which is an increase of 45% over the last (1986) compilation (1). It covers sequences from 38 archaebacteria, 184 eubacteria, 14 plastids, 4 mitochondria, 258 eukaryotes and 11 eukaryotic pseudogenes. The BERLIN RNA DATABANK uses the format of

Ion torrent-based transcriptional assessment of a Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis equi strain reveals denaturing high-performance liquid chromatography a promising rRNA depletion method [PDF]
Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis equi is a Gram-positive pathogenic bacterium which affects a variety of hosts. Besides the great economic losses it causes to horse-breeders, this organism is also known to be an important infectious agent to cattle and

Characterization of human 5S rRNA genes
The human 5S rRNA genes are found in clusters of tandem repeated units. We have cloned and partially characterized six restriction fragments from two clusters of 2.3 kb and 1.6 kb repeats, respectively. Four fragments from the cluster of 2.3 kb repeats contain a 5S rRNA gene and one fragment contains a gene variant with an additional nucleotide in the ...

Molecular cloning of the rRNA genes of Prevotella bryantii B14
Parts of the rRNA operons of anaerobic rumen bacteria Prevotella bryantii B14 were cloned. 350 colonies carrying pBluescriptII with HindIII DNA fragments were screened with 16S rDNA specific probe and six positive clones were obtained.

Genetic features of the marine polychaete Sirsoe methanicola from metagenomic data
The methane ice worm Sirsoe methanicola is the only marine polychaete species observed to colonize the methane hydrates of the Gulf of Mexico. Methane hydrates are ephemeral features of deep-sea cold seeps, and finding worm-colonized hydrates is rare ...

Differential Functional Constraints Cause Strain-Level Endemism in Polynucleobacter Populations. [PDF]
The adaptation of bacterial lineages to local environmental conditions creates the potential for broader genotypic diversity within a species, which can enable a species to dominate across ecological gradients because of niche flexibility.

Minimal Influence of Extracellular DNA on Molecular Surveys of Marine Sedimentary Communities
Extracellular DNA has been reported to comprise a large fraction of total DNA in near-seafloor sediment. However, the potential effect of extracellular DNA, arising from dead or moribund cells, on sequencing surveys is a critical concern that has largely
