The genetic code as an operational a priori: xenobiology and the rewriting of life’s grammar

open access: yesFrontiers in Synthetic Biology
This study refines Konrad Lorenz’s concept of “natural transcendentalism” by drawing a fundamental distinction between the genetic code and the genome, and by exploring the philosophical consequences of that distinction. I argue that the genetic code can

The Platonic Receptacle (Hypodoché), Whitehead’s Philosophy, and Genome Evolution

open access: yesViruses, 2017
The discovery of a universal genetic code utilized by all existing organisms became the backbone of biology. The coding capacity underwent changes during evolution, but its main fluctuation results from its different reading and regulation.

Engineering the tryptophanyl tRNA synthetase and tRNATRP for the orthogonal expansion of the genetic code

open access: yes, 2008
textOver the last twenty years, the expansion of the genetic code has been made possible by the encoding of unnatural amino acids into proteins. Unnatural amino acids could be used to expand the chemical functionalities available to biology allowing for ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Understanding the Genetic Code [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 2019
The universal triple-nucleotide genetic code is often viewed as a given, randomly selected through evolution. However, as summarized in this article, many observations and deductions within structural and thermodynamic frameworks help to explain the forces that must have shaped the code during the early evolution of life on Earth.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Augmenting tomato functional genomics with a genome-wide induced genetic variation resource

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Induced mutations accelerate crop improvement by providing novel disease resistance and yield alleles. However, the alleles with no perceptible phenotype but have an altered function remain hidden in mutagenized plants.

Quality Control During Aminoacyl-tRNA Synthesis [PDF]

open access: yesKemija u Industriji, 2006
The fidelity of translation is determined at two major points: the accuracy of aminoacyl-tRNA selection by the ribosomes and synthesis of cognate amino acid/tRNA pairs by aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) in the course of the aminoacylation reaction ...

Bandwidth Enhancement of Balanced Folded Loop Antenna Design for Mobile Handsets Using Genetic Algorithms

open access: yes, 2008
YesIn this paper, a simple folded loop antenna (FLA) for handsets with relatively wide- band impedance, designed and optimized using genetic algorithms (GA). The FLA dimensions were optimized and evaluated using GA in collaboration with NEC-2 source code.
