Genetic Relationship Between Endometriosis and Melanoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Reproductive Health, 2021
Epidemiological studies have observed that risk of endometriosis is associated with history of cutaneous melanoma and vice versa. Evidence for shared biological mechanisms between the two traits is limited.

Sirolimus for Extracranial Arteriovenous Malformations: A Scoping Review of the Evidence in Syndromic and Non‐Syndromic Cases

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare, high‐flow, vascular anomalies that can occur either sporadically or as part of a genetic syndrome. AVMs can progress with serious morbidity and even mortality if left unchecked. Sirolimus is an mTOR inhibitor that is effective in low‐flow vascular malformations; however, its role in AVMs is unclear.

Genetic Determinism Exists for the Global DNA Methylation Rate in Sheep

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2020
Recent studies showed that epigenetic marks, including DNA methylation, influence production and adaptive traits in plants and animals. So far, most studies dealing with genetics and epigenetics considered DNA methylation sites independently.

Joint Analysis of Genetic Correlation, Mendelian Randomization and Colocalization Highlights the Bi-Directional Causal Association Between Hypothyroidism and Primary Biliary Cirrhosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2021
Background: Hypothyroidism and primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) are often co-existed in observational epidemiological studies. However, the causal relationship between them remains unclear. Methods: Genetic correlation, Mendelian randomization (MR) and ...

Evaluating the Utility of Paired Tumor and Germline Targeted DNA Sequencing for Pediatric Oncology Patients: A Single Institution Report

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the diagnostic yield and utility of universal paired tumor–normal multigene panel sequencing in newly diagnosed pediatric solid and central nervous system (CNS) tumor patients and to compare the detection of germline pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants (PV/LPVs) against established clinical referral criteria for cancer ...

Heritability of problem drinking and the genetic overlap with personality in a general population sample

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2011
This study examined the heritability of problem drinking and investigated the phenotypic and genetic relationships between problem drinking and personality. It was conducted in a sample of 5,870 twins and siblings and 4,420 additional family members from

Pulmonary Dysfunction Is Associated With Sleep Study Abnormalities in Children With Sickle Cell Disease: A Multicenter Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pulmonary dysfunction and sleep abnormalities are common in children with sickle cell disease (SCD) and are associated with worse clinical outcomes. Whether spirometry abnormalities are associated with polysomnography (PSG) findings remains unclear.

Weighting factors of sire daughter information in international genetic evaluations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
International genetic evaluations of dairy bulls are currently based on national genetic evaluation results. Total number of daughters in a country is used to weight national information, but may not optimally reflect the precision of a sire's daughter ...
