Reduced efficacy of selection in regions of the Drosophila genome that lack crossing over [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The recombinational environment is predicted to influence patterns of protein sequence evolution through the effects of Hill-Robertson interference among linked sites subject to selection.

Comparative genomics and genome evolution in yeasts [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, 2006
Yeasts provide a powerful model system for comparative genomics research. The availability of multiple complete genome sequences from different fungal groups—currently 18 hemiascomycetes, 8 euascomycetes and 4 basidiomycetes—enables us to gain a broad perspective on genome evolution.

Long-read assembly of the Chinese rhesus macaque genome and identification of ape-specific structural variants

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Comparative genomic analysis of human and primate relatives can reveal important biological and evolutionary insights. Here, the authors present a long-read assembly of the Chinese rhesus macaque genome and identify ape-specific structural variants.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Evolution of Dosage Compensation in Anolis carolinensis, a Reptile with XX/XY Chromosomal Sex Determination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
: In species with highly heteromorphic sex chromosomes, the degradation of one of the sex chromosomes will result in unequal gene expression between the sexes (e.g.

Genome Evolution: The Dynamics of Static Genomes [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2004
A random survey of a microsporidian genome has revealed some striking features. Although the genomes of microsporidians are among the smallest known for eukaryotes, their organisation appears to be well conserved.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.
