Background: Malaria prevention in Senegal includes the use of Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine plus amodiaquine. Prolonged use of sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine, however, can select for mutations in the Plasmodium falciparum ...

Jose F. Delgado-Blas et al. report a genomic analysis of two antimicrobial-resistant E. coli populations from wastewater and river water. They find that bacteria from wastewater are more resistant to antibiotics and rely on a diverse set of plasmids for ...

Prospects for genomic surveillance for selection in schistosome parasites
Schistosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease caused by multiple parasitic Schistosoma species, and which impacts over 200 million people globally, mainly in low- and middle-income countries. Genomic surveillance to detect evidence for natural selection in schistosome populations represents an emerging and promising approach to identify and interpret

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

The evolution, molecular epidemiology and genomic sampling of emerging viruses
Emerging viruses represent a challenging threat to global health. Increasing human travel and global connectivity, changing climate patterns and incremental contact rates between human and animal populations contribute to the likelihood of emerging viral

Epidemiological Genomics of Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates from hospitals across Colombia
Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the most important nosocomial pathogens worldwide. In Colombia, K. pneumoniae has been identified as the second most frequent microbial etiologic agent of healthcare-associated infections.

Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Global genomic surveillance of monkeypox virus
Abstract Monkeypox virus (MPXV) is endemic in Western and Central Africa and, in May 2022, a clade IIb lineage (B.1) caused a global outbreak outside Africa, resulting in its detection in 117 countries/territories. To understand the global phylogenetics of MPXV, we carried out the first analysis of all available MPXV sequences ...
