Mixed germ cell sex cord-stromal tumors of the testis and ovary. Morphological, immunohistochemical, and molecular genetic study of seven cases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present the morphological, immunohistochemical, and molecular genetic features of three cases of testicular and four cases of ovarian mixed germ cell sex cord-stromal tumors (MGSCT).

Alleviation of Aging‐Related Hallmarks in a Mouse Model of Progeria via a Nanoparticle‐Based Artificial Transcription Factor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oct4‐nanoscript, a biomimetic nanoparticle‐based artificial transcription factor, precisely regulates cellular rejuvenation by activating Oct4 target genes, restoring epigenetic marks, and reducing DNA damage. In a progeria model, it effectively rescued aging‐associated pathologies and extended lifespan.

Machine Learning‐Enabled Polymer Discovery for Enhanced Pulmonary siRNA Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study provides an efficient approach to train a machine learning model by merging heterogeneous literature data to predict suitable polymers for siRNA delivery. Without the need for extensive laboratory synthesis, the machine learning enabled a virtual screening and successfully predicted a polymer that is validated for effective gene silencing in

Pervasiveness of intronless genes expressed in haploid germ cell differentiation

open access: yesReproductive Medicine and Biology, 2021
Background cDNA libraries derived from the brain and testis contain genes that encode almost all proteins. The brain is composed of various differentiated cells, and the testis also contains various differentiated cells, such as germ cells, and somatic ...

Global profiling of DNA methylation erasure in mouse primordial germ cells.

open access: yesGenome Research, 2012
Epigenetic reprogramming, characterized by loss of cytosine methylation and histone modifications, occurs during mammalian development in primordial germ cells (PGCs), yet the targets and kinetics of this process are poorly characterized. Here we provide

High‐Throughput Microfluidic‐Mediated Assembly of Layer‐By‐Layer Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly of polymer films on nanoparticle (NP) surfaces is a promising technique for targeted drug delivery. Despite its success in preclinical mouse models, a current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) compliant, clinical‐scale production method has been lacking.

Temporal Transcriptional Profiling of Somatic and Germ Cells Reveals Biased Lineage Priming of Sexual Fate in the Fetal Mouse Gonad

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2012
The divergence of distinct cell populations from multipotent progenitors is poorly understood, particularly in vivo. The gonad is an ideal place to study this process, because it originates as a bipotential primordium where multiple distinct lineages ...

Control of germ-band retraction in Drosophila by the zinc-finger protein HINDSIGHT [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Drosophila embryos lacking hindsight gene function have a normal body plan and undergo normal germ-band extension. However, they fail to retract their germ bands.

Perfusable Brain Microvascular Network‐On‐Chip Model to Study Flavivirus NS1‐Induced Endothelial Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a microfluidic brain microvascular network‐on‐chip (BMVasChip) to investigate endothelial barrier dysfunction caused by flavivirus non‐structural protein 1 (NS1), including virus‐ and time‐dependent vascular damage, leakiness, and dysfunction.

Seasonal composition of immature germ cells in the Yesso scallop identified by vasa-like gene (my-vlg) and protein expression, with evidence of irregular germ cell differentiation accompanied with a high mortality event

open access: yesAquaculture Reports, 2021
The objective of this study was to understand germ cell renewal and differentiation in the Yesso scallop Mizuhopecten yessoensis throughout its reproductive cycle.
