“Functional Food” for Acceleration of Growth in Short Children Born Small for Gestational Age
Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2010To assess the effect of nutritional supplementation on growth in short children born small for gestational age (SGA).Fifty four short but otherwise healthy children (26 boys), 6.4 +/- 1.8 years of age, were referred for growth retardation.Following a 6 month observation period the participants were randomly allocated to receive growth hormone therapy ...

Accelerations of the human fetal heart rate at 38 to 40 weeks' gestational age
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1984In order to document the normal structure and pattern of fetal heart rate accelerations near term, we measured fetal heart rate and fetal movements for 24-hour observation intervals in 12 healthy pregnant women at 38 to 40 weeks' gestation. There were 34 accelerations per hour on the average with a mean amplitude of 22.8 bpm and a mean duration of 40.7

Investigation of accelerated metabolic function in small for gestational age infants
European Journal of Pediatrics, 1979Small for gestational age (SGA) infants are known to develop relatively mild transient hyperbilirubinaemia, especially in comparison with premature infants. This may be interpreted as an index of accelerated maturation of particular vital functions. In the present study 12 SGA infants, 12 appropriate for gestational age (AGA) infants, and 12 premature ...

Transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN) is the leading cause of neonatal morbidity in preterm deliveries and has been reported in term small-for-gestational-age (SGA) fetuses; therefore, determination of fetal lung maturity before delivery is extremely important. Our present study aimed to evaluate the ratio of fetal pulmonary artery acceleration time

The distribution of accelerations of the human fetal heart rate at 38 to 40 weeks' gestational age
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1985In order to further understand the use of antepartum fetal heart rate monitoring we measured the distribution, in time, of two, three, or five fetal heart rate accelerations of greater than or equal to 15 bpm for greater than or equal to 15 seconds and of greater than or equal to 10 bpm for greater than or equal to 6 seconds in 12 healthy pregnant ...

Objective. Small for gestational age (SGA) neonates have been considered to have accelerated pulmonary maturation and thus a lower risk for respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) than appropriate for gestational age (AGA) neonates. This, however, has not been thoroughly examined.
