Viktoriia Shtefan, Thorgund Nemec, Ute Hempel, Annett Gebert and coworkers demonstrate that anodic treatment of Ti–Cu‐based metallic glass in a nontoxic pyrophosphate electrolyte forms a protective bilayered Ti/Zr‐oxide film enriched with Cu nanocrystals.

Transition metal impurities are well known to cause detrimental effects when present in the active regions of Si devices. Their presence degrades minority carrier lifetime, provides recombination-generation centers, increases junction leakage current and

ABSTRACT Refractory complex‐concentrated alloys (RCCAs) show exceptional promise for extreme‐environment applications, yet intermediate‐temperature instability (0.4–0.6 Tm) and plasticity degradation severely constrain their development. This work provides an effective strategy to transform the inherent intermediate‐temperature instability into a ...

Gettering & Precipitation Phenomena in Semiconductors
Impurity gettering at defects/damage in Si is discussed. Details of intrinsic and extrinsic gettering in Si are presented. The utility of gettering is demonstrated by comparing the results from gettered and non-gettered test devices.

Annealing‐Induced Plasticity and Strengthening in Metallic Glasses
This work challenges the dogma that annealing inevitably embrittles metallic glasses. We demonstrate that sub‐Tg annealing, guided by positive mixing enthalpy and constrained kinetics, can drive a self‐organized compositional fluctuation that creates an interface‐free heterogeneous structure.

The gettering behavior of Cu and Fe was investigated in CZ silicon containing both internal-gettering sites in the bulk due to SiO2 precipitation and a device-side layer of cavities formed by He ion implantation and annealing.

HCl gas gettering for crystalline silicon thin film solar cells
S.001437-001440Crystalline silicon thin film (cSiTF) solar cells could be an attractive alternative for standard silicon solar cells. Only a small amount of the expensive high purity silicon is needed for the epitaxial deposition on a low-cost silicon ...

The Challenge of Icy Sample Return Begins With Artemis
Abstract Throughout the Solar System, volatiles are found as solid ices. Returning ices to Earth for scientific analysis is critical to understanding the formation of a Solar System that bears life. This challenge begins with the Artemis missions to the lunar south polar region, where the coldest lunar regolith is enriched in H2O and other ices—systems

Physical mechanisms of boron diffusion gettering of iron in silicon [PDF]
We have studied the boron diffusion gettering (BDG) of iron in single crystalline silicon. The results show that iron is gettered efficiently by electrically inactive boron, which leads to gettering efficiencies comparable to phosphorus diffusion ...
