The Mechanobiology of Adipocyte Hypertrophy: Cytoskeletal Remodelling as a Driver of Insulin Resistance in Obesity

open access: yesCell Biochemistry and Function, Volume 44, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Adipocyte hypertrophy poses an important mechanical challenge—adipocytes can increase in volume up to a thousand‐fold while still maintaining their structural integrity. Although lipid metabolism is well studied, little is known about the cytoskeletal adaptations that are required to accommodate this expansion and the resulting pathological ...

Maternal and infant gut microbiome

open access: yesiMeta, Volume 5, Issue 4, August 2026.
The maternal–infant continuum involves critical windows of host–microbiota co‐adaptation. Preconception, maternal and paternal microbiomes modulate immunity and reproduction. During pregnancy, a gut–placenta axis emerges, where microbial metabolites influence fetal growth or contribute to complications like gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM ...

A Prospective Observational Study of Anamorelin During Chemoimmunotherapy in Non‐Small Cell Lung Cancer With Cachexia (SPIRAL‐ANA)

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background The prognosis of patients with advanced non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) complicated by cancer cachexia remains poor. Anamorelin, a ghrelin receptor agonist, has been approved only in Japan for the treatment of cancer cachexia.

Interventions for Unhealthy Eating Patterns of Resident Otolaryngologists on Call

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, Volume 11, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Resident physicians commonly experience elevated stress levels and disrupted sleep while on call. Many also report intense cravings for comfort food, typically high in fat, sugar, and salt. The objective of this pilot study was to explore the physiological and psychological factors contributing to the desire for unhealthy food among

Changes in Ultra‐Processed Food Intake During a Single‐Arm Behavioral Weight Management Intervention: A Secondary Analysis

open access: yesObesity, Volume 34, Issue 8, Page 1592-1599, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Increasing evidence links ultra‐processed food (UPF) intake to obesity and related diseases; however, little is known about the role of UPF in behavioral weight‐loss interventions (BWLIs). Thus, the current study investigated whether UPF intake changes during a BWLI and whether these changes are associated with weight‐loss outcomes ...

Alcohol Exposure Alters the Ghrelin System: In Vitro Mechanistic Insights Into Impaired Glucose Sensing and Enhanced Ghrelin Secretion

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, Volume 50, Issue 8, August 2026.
Chronic ethanol exposure increases ghrelin production by impairing glucose sensing in ghrelin‐secreting cells. Ethanol elevates ghrelin and ghrelin O‐acyltransferase expression, blunts glucose‐mediated suppression, and synergizes with fatty acids to enhance secretion.

Intragastric Balloon Treatment Enhances Weight Maintenance Adjunct to Low‐Energy Diet and Group‐Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 8, Page 7300-7311, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims Low‐energy diet (LED) plus cognitive‐behavioural therapy (CBT) produces substantial short‐term weight loss in obesity, but long‐term maintenance remains difficult. We evaluated whether adding intragastric balloon (IGB) treatment to group‐based CBT improves weight maintenance after initial weight loss using LED.
