Solvent‐Mediated Dewetting Principles for Cell‐Sized Liposome Formation
Dynamics of solvent‐mediated dewetting for giant unilamellar liposome formation. Solvent removal, through changing lipid packing and membrane tension, is shown to induce partial dewetting into equilibrium low and high budding angle morphologies. Complete dewetting requires mechanical force, quantified using optical tweezers.

Mechanism of cellular uptake of genotoxic silica nanoparticles. [PDF]
Mechanisms for cellular uptake of nanoparticles have important implications for nanoparticulate drug delivery and toxicity. We have explored the mechanism of uptake of amorphous silica nanoparticles of 14 nm diameter, which agglomerate in culture medium ...

In this study, we developed giant plasma membrane vesicles (GPMVs) from Leishmania amazonensis promastigote membranes to investigate the role of protein‐embedded membranes in methylene blue (MB) photooxidation. Upon MB photoactivation in model lipid membranes (giant unilamellar vesicles, GUVs), a distinct photooxidation effect was observed, marked by ...

What's new? Endocrine drugs repurposed from treatment protocols are the primary medications available for breast cancer (BC) prevention in at‐risk women. Adverse effects, however, significantly minimize uptake and prevention impact. Here, the authors investigated licochalcone A (LicA), a non‐endocrine anti‐inflammatory agent with reported hematologic ...

Reconstitution of circadian clock in synthetic cells reveals principles of timekeeping
The cyanobacterial circadian clock maintains remarkable precision and synchrony, even in cells with femtoliter volumes. Here, we reconstitute the KaiABC post-translational oscillator (PTO) in giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) to investigate underlying ...

Transport of solid bodies along tubular membrane tethers.
We study the crucial role of membrane fluctuations in maintaining a narrow gap between a fluid membrane tube and an enclosed solid particle. Solvent flows can occur in this gap, hence giving rise to a finite particle mobility along the tube.

Interaction of a Polyarginine Peptide with Membranes of Different Mechanical Properties
The membrane translocation efficiency of cell penetrating peptides (CPPs) has been largely studied, and poly-arginines have been highlighted as particularly active CPPs, especially upon negatively charged membranes. Here we inquire about the influence of

Charge-induced phase separation in lipid membranes [PDF]
The phase separation in lipid bilayers that include negatively charged lipids is examined experimentally. We observed phase-separated structures and determined the membrane miscibility temperatures in several binary and ternary lipid mixtures of ...
