From the revisited stance of the nature-nurture controversy, the study investigated the relationship, if any, between the children nominated for the gifted education programme in Nigeria and the profession of their parents. It was found that the “elitist” label which the critics of the programme often attached to it was not upheld by the present study.

Instruments with the richest loadings on general intelligence (g) are the most useful for locating gifted children. Spearman’s g represents giftedness. Raven’s Progressive Matrices, Stanford-Binet scales, and Wechsler scales are the most widely used IQ tests in selecting gifted children worldwide.
