Tirzepatide Is Associated With Improved Metabolic Outcomes in People With Type 1 Diabetes and Overweight or Obesity: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims To evaluate the effect of tirzepatide on body weight, glycaemic control, insulin requirements, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) metrics and cardiorenal parameters in adults with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) and overweight or obesity. Materials and Methods In this retrospective matched cohort study, adults with T1D, BMI ≥ 27 kg/m2, CGM use and

Early Weight Regain After GLP‐1 Receptor Agonist Discontinuation: Mechanisms and Implications for Treatment De‐Escalation Strategies

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1RAs) have transformed the pharmacological management of obesity, producing substantial and sustained weight loss during active treatment. However, discontinuation of therapy is frequently followed by significant weight regain, raising important questions regarding the durability of treatment ...

Diagnosis and management of equine metabolic syndrome

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Equine metabolic syndrome (EMS) is a prevalent endocrine disorder that increases the risk of hyperinsulinaemia‐associated laminitis (HAL), the most common and clinically significant form of laminitis. The central pathological feature of EMS is insulin dysregulation (ID), which encompasses basal or postprandial hyperinsulinaemia and tissue ...

Effectiveness of tirzepatide in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes but no obesity: A sub‐analysis of Hokkaido‐TZP study data

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
Tirzepatide achieved significant HbA1c reduction in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes without obesity, regardless of baseline BMI. Weight reduction was BMI‐dependent and enhanced by dietary consultations. No patient developed underweight status during the 6‐month observation period.

Adaptive islet biology and comprehensive incretin physiology: Emerging perspectives from Asia and Europe

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
Adaptive islet biology and incretin physiology provide a framework linking diverse diabetes phenotypes, with advances in β‐cell stress adaptation, intra‐islet communication, receptor‐resolved biology, and β‐cell mass imaging. By integrating clinical perspectives from Asia and Europe with multiscale islet‐cell biology, these insights may support ...

The ciliary neurotrophic factor induces Stat3 phosphorylation in distinctive cytotypes of organs involved in body metabolism: An immunohistochemical study

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
p‐STAT3‐positive cells in metabolically relevant peripheral organs and tissues from mice administered with recombinant CNTF (0.3 mg/kg). Abstract Administration of ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) reduces food intake and body weight in both humans and experimental animals, where it also ameliorates hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and dyslipidemia ...

Evidence for regulation of transpiration in nonstomatal plants: insights from bryophyte gametophytes

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Kinetics of cell wall water vapor potential (Ψcw) and resistance of cell wall and plasmatic membrane to water flux in response to cytoplasmic water potential (Ψcyt) during dehydration. Ψcyt was calculated from the WC at any moment of the dehydration curve by using the relationship between −1/Ψw and WC of pressure volume curves and assuming Ψw = Ψcyt ...

Effects of Glucagon‐Like Peptide‐1 Receptor Agonists (Mono and Combination Therapy) on Energy Expenditure: A Scoping Review

open access: yesObesity Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Weight loss results in reduced energy expenditure (EE) due to body composition alterations (e.g., fat‐free mass and fat mass losses) and mass‐independent adaptations in EE (e.g., hormones). Glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1RA) are indicated for obesity management; however, their effects on EE remain unclear ...

Obesity‐Related Coagulation Activation in Adolescents and Children: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesObesity Reviews, EarlyView.
Obesity is widely recognized as a pro‐thrombotic condition, yet the specific biomarker profile reflecting coagulation activation remains incompletely defined. Obesity is associated with increased coagulation activation, particularly in children, suggesting an early pro‐thrombotic shift.
