Glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP) suppresses androgen biosynthesis in PCOS mouse models and cellular systems

open access: yesGynecological Endocrinology
Objective To assess the potential therapeutic effects of glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP) on hyperandrogenism. Methods Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) mouse models induced by dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) were established to evaluate the ...

Retatrutide‐Associated Improvements in Cardiovascular Risk Biomarkers in Adults With Obesity With or Without Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims To further characterise the effects of retatrutide on cardiometabolic risk, lipoprotein and inflammatory biomarkers were assessed post hoc in phase 2 trials of adults with obesity/overweight with or without type 2 diabetes (T2D). Materials and Methods Data were analysed from two randomised, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled phase 2 trials.

Body Composition Remodelling During GLP‐1‐Based Therapy: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis Using a Hierarchical Physiological Framework

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Body composition changes during glucagon‐like peptide‐1 (GLP‐1)‐based therapy remain incompletely characterized, particularly regarding their effects on adiposity, muscle quantity, and muscle quality. We conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis using a predefined physiological framework to evaluate body composition ...

Effects of age, sex, and renal function on bowel movement‐improving effects of Bifidobacterium bifidum G9‐1 on constipation in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease: A prespecified subgroup analysis of the BIRDIE study

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
This prespecified subgroup analysis of the BIRDIE study demonstrated that Bifidobacterium bifidum G9‐1 improved stool consistency, bowel movement, and quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and specifically in age ≥ 65 years, male, and those with eGFR ≥60 mL/min/1.73 m2.

Bridging gaps in diabetic neuropathy care: A Delphi‐based regional consensus from the Gulf Cooperation Council

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
A three‐round Delphi consensus developed GCC‐specific, evidence‐based recommendations for diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) and painful diabetic neuropathy (PND). The consensus emphasizes proactive screening, early multimodal management, and addressing regional barriers to improve early detection, optimize management, and enhance quality of life ...

Role of glucagon in metabolic diseases

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Currently, diabetes is defined as “a chronic hyperglycemic state resulting from the absolute or relative insufficiency of insulin action,” emphasizing its characterization as an insulin‐related disease. However, glucagon dysregulation should also play a critical role in the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes.

The ciliary neurotrophic factor induces Stat3 phosphorylation in distinctive cytotypes of organs involved in body metabolism: An immunohistochemical study

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
p‐STAT3‐positive cells in metabolically relevant peripheral organs and tissues from mice administered with recombinant CNTF (0.3 mg/kg). Abstract Administration of ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) reduces food intake and body weight in both humans and experimental animals, where it also ameliorates hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and dyslipidemia ...

Evidence for regulation of transpiration in nonstomatal plants: insights from bryophyte gametophytes

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Kinetics of cell wall water vapor potential (Ψcw) and resistance of cell wall and plasmatic membrane to water flux in response to cytoplasmic water potential (Ψcyt) during dehydration. Ψcyt was calculated from the WC at any moment of the dehydration curve by using the relationship between −1/Ψw and WC of pressure volume curves and assuming Ψw = Ψcyt ...
