IL-4 Inhibits IL-1β-Induced Depressive-Like Behavior and Central Neurotransmitter Alterations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
It has been known that activation of the central innate immune system or exposure to stress can disrupt balance of anti-/proinflammatory cytokines. The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines in the ...

A 3D Astrocyte Microenvironment Model Enables Rapid Ca2+‐Resolved Analysis and Therapeutic Modulation of Oxidative Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents ARC‐3D, a soft 3D model that recreates how brain support cells, called astrocytes, react to oxidative stress. The system visualizes rapid calcium changes and inflammatory signals, and shows how the drug KDS12025 can protect cells from damage. ARC‐3D offers a simple, reliable way to study early drivers of brain inflammation.

Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein-Expressing Glia in the Mouse Lung

open access: yesASN Neuro, 2015
Autonomic nerves regulate important functions in visceral organs, including the lung. The postganglionic portion of these nerves is ensheathed by glial cells known as non-myelinating Schwann cells.

Glial fibrillary acidic protein elevations relate to neuroimaging abnormalities after mild TBI

open access: yesNeurology, 2018
Objectives To determine whether a panel of blood-based biomarkers can discriminate between patients with suspected mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) with and without neuroimaging findings (CT and MRI).

Serotonergic System‐Targeted Nucleic Acid Hydrogel Coordinates Excitability Restoration and Circuit Reconstruction for Spinal Cord Injury Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The study reports a DNA/RNA heteroduplex hydrogel (SeroPTEN‐CG) that undergoes DNase‐mediated hydrogel‐to‐nanogel transition for spinal cord injury therapy by targeting the serotonergic system, combining 5‐hydroxytryptamine (5‐HT)‐mediated excitability restoration to reactivate dormant interneurons with phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN)‐targeted ...

Evidence that an RGD-dependent receptor mediates the binding of oligodendrocytes to a novel ligand in a glial-derived matrix. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
A simple adhesion assay was used to measure the interaction between rat oligodendrocytes and various substrata, including a matrix secreted by glial cells. Oligodendrocytes bound to surfaces coated with fibronectin, vitronectin and a protein component of

Piezoelectric Stimulation of Neural Cells: Exploring the Synergistic Potential of Hybrid Scaffolds for Enhanced Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Hybrid piezoelectric scaffolds offer a promising route for Central Nervous System regeneration by combining structural and electrical cues to support neural stem cell growth. This review highlights their potential to overcome current challenges in neural tissue engineering by exploring porous hybrid materials, their biological interactions, and ...

Prospective Validation of Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein, d‐Dimer, and Clinical Scales for Acute Large‐Vessel Occlusion Ischemic Stroke Detection

open access: yesStroke: Vascular and Interventional Neurology
Background Large‐vessel occlusion (LVO) ischemic stroke is responsible for significant morbidity and mortality. We have previously described a novel tool for acute LVO detection that combines blood‐based biomarkers (glial fibrillary acidic protein and d ...

Avaliação das anormalidades precoces da retina sensorial em modelo experimental de hipercolesterolemia: estudo imunohistoquímico [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to demonstrate the early changes of the sensory retina induced by hypercholesterolemia in an experimental model. METHODS: New Zealand rabbits were divided into two groups: CG (Control Group) was fed a normal diet for 6 ...

Two‐Photon Polymerized Microvascular Environments for Multicellular Modeling of the Blood–Brain Tumor Barrier

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Modeling the blood–brain tumor barrier is challenging due to complex interactions between brain microvasculature and glioma cells. We present two‐photon polymerized 3D micro‐porous capillary‐like structures that support endothelial alignment, cytoskeletal organization, and pericyte‐endothelial‐glioma tri‐cultures.
