Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis

The American Journal of Medicine, 1974
Abstract In this clinicopathologic study of 16 cases of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, the median age at onset was 21 years. Sixty per cent had persistent microscopic hematuria, 88 per cent had the nephrotic syndrome, and all had steroid-resistant proteinuria.

Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis

Annual Review of Medicine, 1984
Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis is an important cause of the nephrotic syndrome in children and adults. This paper reviews the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, morphology, and treatment of focal glomerulosclerosis. In addition, it considers the recently described association of focal glomerulosclerosis with nonglomerular renal diseases and the

Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis

Pediatric Nephrology, 1996
Over the last 2 decades, we have learnt that focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a ubiquitous phenomenon underlying the progressive deterioration of many different types of renal diseases in both pediatric and adult populations. FSGS may also be the primary renal lesion, whether in new disease entities such as glycogen storage disease and ...

Focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis

Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2006
An increasing cause of end-stage renal disease is the pathological lesion focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). FSGS is characterized by proteinuria and frequently nephrotic syndrome with ensuing renal failure. The etiology remains unknown in the majority of individuals.

Treatment of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis

Current Opinion in Nephrology and Hypertension, 2001
The prognosis of untreated patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis is poor, as the disease progress to end-stage renal disease in approximately 50--70% of nephrotic patients. Although focal segmental glomerulosclerosis was initially considered to be a steroid-resistant disease, several studies have shown a better responsiveness to more ...

Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis

Advances in Kidney Disease and Health
Focal segmental glomerular sclerosis (FSGS) is a histological lesion characterized by sclerosis in sections (segmental) of some glomeruli (focal) in association with podocyte injury. Historically, FSGS has often been characterized as a disease, but it is a heterogeneous entity based on etiology, clinical course, and therapeutic approach.

A Case of Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis

Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, 2021
An 18-year-old man was referred to nephrology after being found to have proteinuria by urine dipstick during routine evaluation. He reported a significant family history of kidney disease. His father, a paternal aunt, and male paternal first cousin all developed kidney failure at ages 20, 25, and ...
