Islet acid glucan-1,4-alpha-glucosidase: a putative key enzyme in nutrient-stimulated insulin secretion

open access: yes, 1996
Little attention has been paid to a possible relationship between lysosomal function and stimulation of secretory processes in endocrine cells. The last few years it has become increasingly evident that the secretion of insulin from the pancreatic beta ...

N-linked oligosaccharide processing enzyme glucosidase II produces 1,5-anhydrofructose as a side product [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
α-1,4-Glucan lyase cleaves α-1,4-linkages of nonreducing termini of α-1,4-glucans to produce 1,5-anhydrofructose (1,5-AnFru). The enzymes isolated from fungi and algae show high homology with glycoside hydrolase family 31.

A genome wide association scan for (1,3;1,4)-β-glucan content in the grain of contemporary 2-row Spring and Winter barleys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: (1,3;1,4)-β-Glucan is an important component of the cell walls of barley grain as it affects processability during the production of alcoholic beverages and has significant human health benefits when consumed aboverecommended threshold levels.

Pentacylic triterpenes from Lavandula coronopifolia: structure related inhibitory activity on α-glucosidase

open access: yes, 2019
Ten pentacyclic triterpenes (1-10) were isolated from Lavandula coronopifolia. We evaluated their α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, and found that the aglycones, 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 10 showed superior IC50 values to the positive control.

Safety evaluation of the food enzyme glucan 1,4‐α‐maltotetraohydrolase from Bacillus licheniformis (strain DP‐Dzr46)

open access: yes, 2019
The food enzyme glucan 1,4‐α‐maltotetraohydrolase (4‐α‐d‐glucan maltotetraohydrolase, EC 3.2.1.60) is produced with a genetically modified Bacillus licheniformis strain DP‐Dzr46 by Danisco US Inc.

Inhibitory effects of a sulfated polysaccharide isolated from edible red alga Bangia fusco-purpurea on α-amylase and α-glucosidase

open access: yes, 2019
In this study, a sulfated polysaccharide (BFP) was isolated from the edible red alga Bangia fusco-purpurea. Gel-filtration and thin layer chromatographically analyses suggested that BFP was a homogenous polysaccharide.

α-1,4-Glucosidase–albumin polymers : in vitro properties and advantages for enzyme replacement therapy

open access: yes, 1980
Soluble polymers of rat (or human) albumin and α-1,4-glucosidase are prepared using the cross-linking agent glutaraldehyde. The resulting polymer has an average molecular weight of 800 000 indicating an average composition of 12 albumin molecules for ...

Formation of α-D-glucose-1-phosphate by thermophilic α-1,4-D-glucan phosphorylase

open access: yes, 2000
For the production of α-D-glucose-1-phosphate (G-1-P), α-1,4-D-glucan phosphorylase from Thermus caldophilus GK24 was partially purified to a specific activity of 13 U mg-1 and an enzyme recovery of 15%.

Characterising the selectivity of ER α-glucosidase inhibitors

open access: yes, 2019
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) contains both α-glucosidases and α-mannosidases which process the N-linked oligosaccharides of newly synthesised glycoproteins and thereby facilitate polypeptide folding and glycoprotein quality control.
