Resistance to Glucocorticoid Feedback in Obesity [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2001
Increased hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis drive has been reported in obese subjects but with paradoxically low or normal levels of plasma cortisol. Our current study was designed to investigate whether glucocorticoid feedback was altered in obesity, both under basal and stressed conditions.

Single‐Cell Profiling Reveals a Protective WNT5A‐ATF3‐FOSB Signaling Axis in Hair Follicle Stem Cells During Androgenetic Alopecia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a common form of hair loss with limited treatment options. Silencing of WNT5A signaling, which is widely known as the trigger of the ncWNT signaling pathway, happens in hair follicle stem cells from balding areas. It leads to downregulation of ATF3 and its target FOSB.

Glucocorticoids for human skin: New aspects of the mechanism of action [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Topical glucocorticoids have always been considered first-line drugs for inflammatory diseases of the skin and bronchial system. Applied systemically, glucocorticoids are used for severe inflammatory and immunological diseases and the inhibition of ...

Targeting β2‐Adrenergic Receptor Stability With Lycorine Reveals a Host‐Directed Pathway for Antiviral Defense Against Poxviruses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic stress drives autophagy‐mediated β2‐AR degradation, impairing antiviral immunity and promoting poxvirus lethality. Lycorine directly stabilizes β2‐AR to restore host defense, suppress excessive inflammation and improve survival. ABSTRACT Psychological stress is a pervasive yet poorly understood modulator of infectious disease outcomes. Here, we

Suppression of the Nrf2-dependent antioxidant response by glucocorticoids and 11β-HSD1-mediated glucocorticoid activation in hepatic cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2) is a key transcription factor regulating a plethora of detoxifying enzymes and antioxidant genes involved in drug metabolism and defence against oxidative stress.

Spatiotemporal Multi‐Omic Mapping Reveals Liver‐Muscle Metabolic Crosstalk in Cancer Cachexia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The interactive CCAtlas platform delineates cross‐species, spatiotemporal, and sex‐specific molecular dynamics and metabolic rewiring across organs during cancer cachexia. Hepatic Gamt downregulation curtails hepatic creatine synthesis to trigger systemic creatine insufficiency and consequent skeletal muscle atrophy in LLC tumour‐bearing mice ...

The Airway Epithelial Barrier in Childhood Asthma: A Central Player in Glucocorticoid Therapy, Resistance, and Severe Asthma

open access: yesPediatric Discovery
Childhood asthma remains a global public health challenge with suboptimal control, despite the availability of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) as first‐line therapy.

Linking Mitochondria to Synapses: New Insights for Stress-Related Neuropsychiatric Disorders

open access: yesNeural Plasticity, 2016
The brain evolved cellular mechanisms for adapting synaptic function to energy supply. This is particularly evident when homeostasis is challenged by stress.

Glucocorticoid Metabolism in Obesity and Following Weight Loss

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2020
Glucocorticoids are steroid hormones produced by the adrenal cortex and are essential for the maintenance of various metabolic and homeostatic functions. Their function is regulated at the tissue level by 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases and they signal

Bone Marrow Macrophage STING Signaling is a Direct Nexus Linking Marrow Adipose Expansion to NAD+ Depletion and Osteogenic Decline in Skeletal Aging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that during skeletal aging, bone marrow adipocyte‐derived sDPP4 primes STING signaling in macrophages. In combination with mitochondrial DNA, this signaling activates CD38 and depletes local NAD+/NMN, thereby impairing osteogenesis.
