Carcinoma‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in tumors influence cancer progression. We identified endoglin (ENG) as a key factor in TGF‐β signaling in myofibroblastic CAFs (myCAFs), linked to poor breast cancer outcomes. Inhibiting ENG on myCAFs suppressed the TGF‐β‐Smad2/3 pathway, reducing primary tumor growth and metastasis.

Association of serum calcium and metabolically healthy obese in US adults: a cross-sectional study
Objectives The relationship between serum calcium and occurrence of MHO (metabolically healthy obesity) and MUNO (metabolically unhealthy non-obesity) remains unclear, and distinguishing these two phenotypes is difficult within primary healthcare units ...

A fluorescence lifetime-based fibre-optic glucose sensor using glucose/galactose-binding protein [PDF]
Alternative, non-electrochemistry-based technologies for continuous glucose monitoring are needed for eventual use in diabetes mellitus. As part of a programme investigating fluorescent glucose sensors, we have developed fibre-optic biosensors using ...

Raphin‐1 reduces the survival of PED‐DHGG cells and enhances their radiation sensitivity through both PeIF2α‐dependent and PeIF2α‐independent mechanisms. Raphin‐1 sustains elevated levels of PeIF2α, contributing to its PeIF2α‐dependent effects. Additionally, raphin‐1 interacts with CReP to mediate a separate radiosensitizing pathway that operates ...

Dapagliflozin stimulates glucagon secretion at high glucose: experiments and mathematical simulations of human A-cells. [PDF]
Glucagon is one of the main regulators of blood glucose levels and dysfunctional stimulus secretion coupling in pancreatic A-cells is believed to be an important factor during development of diabetes.

Pancreatic regulation of glucose homeostasis
In order to ensure normal body function, the human body is dependent on a tight control of its blood glucose levels. This is accomplished by a highly sophisticated network of various hormones and neuropeptides released mainly from the brain, pancreas ...
