Protective immune response against Rhodococcus equi: An innate immunity‐focused review

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 57, Issue 3, Page 563-586, May 2025.
Abstract Rhodococcus equi causes pyogranulomatous pneumonia in foals and immunocompromised people. Despite decades of research efforts, no vaccine is available against this common cause of disease and death in foals. The purpose of this narrative review is to summarise the current understanding of interactions between R. equi and the host innate immune

The proteomic differences and expression of fatty acid‐binding protein 6 (FABP6) associated with gastrointestinal injury in horses with oral administration of a clinical dose of phenylbutazone

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Phenylbutazone (PBZ) can potentially induce gastrointestinal ulceration, and early detection of PBZ‐induced gastroenteropathy will be useful for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of PBZ toxicity. Objectives To identify putative proteins associated with equine gastric ulcer syndrome after clinical dose (4.4 mg/kg ...

Transcription activator‐like effectors of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae hijack host transcriptional regulation through OsWRKYs

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
TALEs from Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae enter rice cells via the Type III secretion system and manipulate OsWRKY transcription factors. The TALE Xoo1219 activates OsWRKY104, enhancing susceptibility by inducing OsSWEET genes, and Xoo2145 activates OsWRKY55, which suppresses defense via OsWRKY62.

β-Glucuronidase in the Rat Placenta [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1962
HISTOCHEMICAL investigations, using the ferric hydroxyquinoline method of Fishman and Baker1, indicate that the β-glucuronidase of the fully established rat placenta is predominantly fœtal. As early as the 9-day stage there is moderate activity in the embryonic structures.

The gut‐microbiota‐brain axis: Focus on gut steroids

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, EarlyView.
Abstract There are over 1000 varieties of steroids that have been reported in nature, including the endogenous sex steroid hormones (i.e., progesterone, testosterone, and 17β‐estradiol) and corticosteroids which are mainly synthesized by gonads and adrenals, respectively.

Phytohormone-mediated interkingdom signaling shapes the outcome of rice-Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Small-molecule hormones are well known to play key roles in the plant immune signaling network that is activated upon pathogen perception. In contrast, little is known about whether phytohormones also directly influence microbial virulence ...

Isolation and characterization of a spore development mutant in Pyropia yezoensis (Rhodophyta) induced via insertional mutagenesis

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, EarlyView.
Abstract Mechanistic elucidation of spore development is essential for understanding reproductive strategies and improving seaweed cultivation. In this study, we isolated a mutant with spore development defects in Pyropia yezoensis (Rhodophyta) from among genetic transformants generated via insertional mutagenesis. We characterized the mutant phenotype

Evolutionary‐conserved RLF, a cytochrome b5‐like heme‐binding protein, regulates organ development in Marchantia polymorpha

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary In Arabidopsis thaliana, REDUCED LATERAL ROOT FORMATION (RLF), a cytochrome b5‐like heme‐binding domain (Cytb5‐HBD) protein, is necessary for proper lateral root (LR) formation. Whereas the other Cytb5‐HBD proteins in A. thaliana regulate different metabolic reactions, RLF is unique as it specifically regulates organ development.

Redundant functions of miR156‐targeted SQUAMOSA PROMOTER BINDING PROTEIN‐LIKE transcription factors in promoting cauline leaf identity

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Cauline leaf development represents an intermediate phase between vegetative and reproductive stages. While extensive research has been conducted on the genetic and environmental factors that determine cauline leaf number, less attention has been given to the regulation of their morphology and the establishment of cauline leaf identity. In this

A novel family of hemicellulolytic α‐glucuronidase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2009
Investigation of the xylanolytic enzyme system of the xylose‐fermenting yeast Pichia stipitis resulted in the discovery of an extracellular α‐glucuronidase efficiently debranching hardwood glucuronoxylan. This activity is not exhibited by more extensively investigated α‐glucuronidases of glycoside hydrolase (GH) family 67, operating on substrates in ...
