Differential Effects of Dietary MSG on Hippocampal Dependent Memory Are Mediated by Diet
IntroductionFree glutamate is a common dietary flavor enhancer and is also an important excitatory neurotransmitter in the body. A good number of food additives which contain glutamate are found in the Western Diet, and this diet has also been linked to ...

Generation of directional selectivity by individual thin dendrites in neocortical pyramidal neurons [PDF]
Patterned 2-photon glutamate uncaging and local GABA iontophoresis were used to test, in brain slices, whether basal and oblique dendrites possess the biophysical machinery to contribute to the directional selectivity exhibited by many sensory ...

This work introduces a novel Hybrid Retinal Implant (HRI), composed of a high‐density electrode array integrated with glutamatergic neurons to overcome key limitations of current retinal prostheses. The significant reduction of activation threshold and of electrode cross‐talk yields in an improved spatial resolution.
