Fusogenic RNA Nanomodules for Fusion‐Mediated and Multiplexed siRNA Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A fusogenic lipid‐layered RNA nanomodules (L‐CRAMs) enable high‐capacity and long‐lasting siRNA delivery through membrane fusion. These nanomodules carry exceptionally large siRNA payloads, avoid conventional endosomal uptake, and release multiple functional siRNAs through Dicer‐mediated processing.

Impaired Hippocampal Glutamate and Glutamine Metabolism in the db/db Mouse Model of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

open access: yesNeural Plasticity, 2017
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a risk factor for the development of Alzheimer’s disease, and changes in brain energy metabolism have been suggested as a causative mechanism.

Integrated metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses reveal that glutamine promotes chicken primordial germ cell-like cell specification potentially through α-ketoglutarate [PDF]

open access: yesAnimal Bioscience
Objective Primordial germ cells (PGCs) are essential for germline transmission and preservation of genetic resources in poultry. Despite identification of several genes and signaling pathways involved in PGC specification, the upstream regulatory ...

Measurement of glutathione synthesis by isotope ratio mass spectrometry in systemic inflammation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
During sepsis and critical illness, a systemic inflammatory response can significantly produce reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, which can damage host tissues.

Molecular crowding defines a common origin for the Warburg effect in proliferating cells and the lactate threshold in muscle physiology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Aerobic glycolysis is a seemingly wasteful mode of ATP production that is seen both in rapidly proliferating mammalian cells and highly active contracting muscles, but whether there is a common origin for its presence in these widely different systems is

Bioinspired Co‐Assembly Enables Multiscale Architected Hydrogels for 3D Printing With Integrated Antibacterial and Bioactive Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multicomponent supramolecular hydrogel integrating cell‐adhesive and antibacterial peptides within an alginate‐cellulose nanofibril matrix is developed. Peptide co‐assembly simultaneously strengthens the hydrogel network, improves extrusion printability, and imparts cell‐adhesive and antibacterial functions, offering a versatile platform for ...

3D Bioprinted Glioblastoma Multiforme Models: How the Extracellular Matrix Glycosignature Influences Drug Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Aberrant glycosylation in the glioblastoma tumor microenvironment drives therapeutic resistance. Here, a 3D bioprinted model was engineered by incorporating α‐NeuNAc‐(2→3)‐β‐D‐Gal‐ and chondroitin sulfate. Combined multiplex immunofluorescence and synchrotron‐based nanoCT analysis revealed that glycan‐matrix interactions dictate specific drug‐escape ...

Charting Morphotoxicity With Complementary Embryo Models

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Three human embryo models of the peri‐implantation stages are exposed to a library of compounds. The (toxic) effects of the compounds are analyzed through automated image analysis pipelines. By evaluating the differential responses of the embryo models, this study underscores the importance of testing complementary embryo models to achieve robust and ...

Glutamine and glucose metabolism during thymocyte proliferation. Pathways of glutamine and glutamate metabolism [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1985
Energy metabolism in proliferating cultured rat thymocytes was compared with that of freshly prepared non-proliferating resting cells. Cultured rat thymocytes enter a proliferative cycle after stimulation by concanavalin A and Lymphocult T (interleukin-2), with maximal rates of DNA synthesis at 60 h.

The Glutamine Transporters and Their Role in the Glutamate/GABA-Glutamine Cycle

open access: yes, 2016
Glutamine is a key amino acid in the CNS, playing an important role in the glutamate/GABA–glutamine cycle (GGC). In the GGC, glutamine is transferred from astrocytes to neurons, where it will replenish the inhibitory and excitatory neurotransmitter pools.
