Modulation of Lanthanide Luminescence with the Mechanical Bond: Antenna‐Emitter Confinement in a Compact [2]Rotaxane

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Luminescent emitters based on lanthanide ions are of ubiquitous importance in the biological sciences, but typically need sensitisation from a covalently attached adjacent chromophore – an “antenna” – to have suitable emission intensities. Here we show that the mechanical bond can be used to connect the antenna to the emitter, providing unique dynamic ...

Measurement and clinical significance of biomarkers of oxidative stress in humans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Oxidative stress is the result of the imbalance between reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation and enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidants. Biomarkers of oxidative stress are relevant in the evaluation of the disease status and of the health-enhancing ...

Fluorinated branched polymer enables Ce6 and IR780 more effective for phototherapy

open access: yesNano Select, EarlyView., 2021
Hydrophobic IR780 and Ce6 were loaded into fluorinated polymer micelles by self‐assembly, and they showed good photodynamic and photothemal abilities, enabling them to synergistically induce tumor cell apoptosis. Abstract Phototherapy is gradually becoming a primary technique for treating tumors due to increased efficacy and less side effects.

Nimesulide limits kainate-induced oxidative damage in the rat hippocampus [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Pharmacology 390(3): 295-298 (2000), 2007
Kainate induces a marked expression of cyclooxygenase-2 after its systemic administration. Because cyclooxygenase-2 activity is associated to the production of reactive oxygen species, we investigated the effects of nimesulide, a selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor, on kainate-induced in vivo oxidative damage in the rat hippocampus.

“Pincer movement”: Reversing cisplatin resistance based on simultaneous glutathione depletion and glutathione S-transferases inhibition by redox-responsive degradable organosilica hybrid nanoparticles

open access: yesActa Pharmaceutica Sinica B, 2022
The therapeutic efficacy of cisplatin has been restricted by drug resistance of cancers. Intracellular glutathione (GSH) detoxification of cisplatin under the catalysis of glutathione S-transferases (GST) plays important roles in the development of ...

Robust Retrospective Frequency and Phase Correction for Single-voxel MR Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Purpose: subject motion and static field (B$_0$) drift are known to reduce the quality of single voxel MR spectroscopy data due to incoherent averaging. Retrospective correction has previously been shown to improve data quality by adjusting the phase and frequency offset of each average to match a reference spectrum.
