Size‐Dependent Ultrafast UV Photochemistry of Aliphatic Disulfides in Solution
Aliphatic disulfides exclusively split homolytically along the S−S bond when directly exciting the disulfide chromophore at about 250 nm. Ultrafast (<1 ps) geminate recombination at high yield is observed in solution for fragment sizes as small as L‐cysteine. The smallest disulfide recombines ten‐fold more slowly.

Bromelain inhibitor VI, a two‐chain protein stabilized by three interchain SS bonds and two intrachain SS bonds, was synthesized in an incredibly high isolated yield (53%) just by mixing the two native chains in a buffer solution. This success made a record of oxidative protein folding for the most complicated and difficult one.
