Measurement of glycated albumin in serum and plasma by LC-MS/MS

Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation, 2016
Diagnosis of diabetes and monitoring of long-term blood sugar are preferably done by measurement of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). Diabetic patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) may have short-lived red blood cells due to hemodialysis (HD), and thus higher turnover of hemoglobin.

The effect of non-enzymatic glycation on the unfolding of human serum albumin

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2005
We monitored the unfolding of human serum albumin (HSA) and glycated human serum albumin (gHSA) subjected to guanidine hydrochloride (GndHCl) by using fluorescence and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. A two-state model with sloping baselines best described the Trp-214 fluorescence unfolding measurements, while a three-state model best described ...

Kinetics of the glycation of bovine serum albumin by mannose and fucose in vitro

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1989
Glycation of bovine serum albumin was measured for mannose and fucose at 37 degrees C. Mannose as well as fucose demonstrated an initial rapid increase in rate of formation of total adducts followed by a slower secondary reaction. The equilibrium constant for Schiff base formation was almost two times larger for mannose than fucose, although the Schiff

The in vitro glycation of human serum albumin in the presence of Zn(II)

Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry, 2011
Amino groups of human serum albumin (HSA) can react non-enzymatically with carbonyl groups of reducing sugars to form advanced glycation end products (AGEs). These AGEs contribute to many of the chronic complications of diabetes including atherosclerosis, cataract formation and renal failure.

Site specificity of glycation and carboxymethylation of bovine serum albumin by fructose

Amino Acids, 2006
We report an investigation of the site specificity, extent and nature of modification of bovine serum albumin (BSA) incubated with fructose or glucose at physiological temperature and pH. Sites of early glycation (Heyns rearrangement products (HRP) from fructose; fructoselysine (FL) from glucose) as well as advanced glycation (N(epsilon)-(carboxymethyl)

Intensification of serum albumin amyloidogenesis by a glycation-peroxidation loop (GPL)

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2019
The interaction of reducing sugars with proteins leads to the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGE) and reactive oxidative species (ROS). ROS peroxidise free or membrane included unsaturated fatty acids, leading to generate reactive aldehydes as advanced lipid peroxidation end products (ALE).

Investigation of thermal reversibility and stability of glycated human serum albumin

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2013
Protein glycation, the process by which carbohydrates attach to proteins upon covalent binding, can alter protein thermal reversibility and stability. Protein stability and reversibility have important role in protein behavior and function. Also they are benefit properties for drug produce and protein industrial applications.

Glycation of Human Serum Albumin in Diabetes: Impacts on the Structure and Function

Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2014
Diabetes mellitus is one of the most serious diseases in the world. The levels of glycated proteins in the blood of diabetics are higher than that of non-diabetic subjects. The glycation of proteins is believed to link to the occurrence of diabetic complications and related diseases.

In vitro glycation of human serum albumin by dihydroxyacetone and dihydroxyacetone phosphate

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2012
Amino groups in proteins can non-enzymatically react with reducing sugars to generate a structurally diverse group of compounds referred to as advanced glycation end products (AGEs). The in vivo formation of AGEs contributes to some of the complications of diabetes including atherosclerosis, cataract formation, and renal failure.

Characterization of the Glycation of Albumin in Freeze-Dried and Frozen Human Serum

Analytical Chemistry, 1997
Human serum albumin (HSA) in fresh frozen and freeze-dried serum reference materials was examined by mass spectrometry and a variety of affinity chromatography techniques. The relative molecular mass distribution of HSA in fresh frozen serum was found to be identical to that of an HSA standard.
