Triglyceride-glucose index: a surrogate marker of homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance to predict diabetic nephropathy

open access: yesJournal of the Pakistan Medical Association
Objectives: To determine the association of triglyceride-glucose index with homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, and to determine the association of triglyceride-glucose index with urinary albumin-to ...

C-Reactive protein and risk of ESRD: results from the Trial to Reduce Cardiovascular Events With Aranesp Therapy (TREAT) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: To better understand a potential association of elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) level with progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD), we examined the relationship of CRP level with the development of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in ...

The analysis of avian plasma for glycated serum albumin

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2010
Plasma glucose concentrations (Pglu) in humans are regulated at 80–100mg%. If levels reach 150mg% for 4–6 weeks, the symptoms of Type 2 diabetes appear due to the glycation of serum albumin and the subsequent formation of advanced glycation end‐products (AGEs).

Bifidobacterium bifidum G9‐1 Intake Improves Gastrointestinal Symptoms in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: An Open‐Label, Randomized Controlled Trial (Binary STAR Study)

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims To evaluate the effects of probiotics Bifidobacterium bifidum G9‐1 (BBG9‐1) on gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with diarrhoea or constipation. Materials and Methods In a 12‐week open‐label randomised controlled trial, 100 participants were randomized 1:1 to a control or BBG9‐1 group, with 12 mg ...

Serum NGAL and Cystatin C Comparison With Urinary Albumin-to-Creatinine Ratio and Inflammatory Biomarkers as Early Predictors of Renal Dysfunction in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesKidney International Reports, 2017
Diabetic nephropathy is associated with specific histological changes. Early detection of poor glomerular and tubular function can be achieved with biomarkers of diabetes.

Effects of Vicadrostat/Empagliflozin in People With Chronic Kidney Disease: Metabolic Subgroup Analyses

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims In a phase 2 trial, the efficacy and safety of the highly selective aldosterone synthase inhibitor vicadrostat, alone or with empagliflozin, were investigated in people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) with or without type 2 diabetes (T2D). Materials and Methods Adults (n = 586) with CKD (estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] 30 to

Urinary proteomics for prediction of mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes and microalbuminuria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: The urinary proteomic classifier CKD273 has shown promise for prediction of progressive diabetic nephropathy (DN). Whether it is also a determinant of mortality and cardiovascular disease in patients with microalbuminuria (MA) is unknown.

Ultrafast python‐integrated single‐entity electrochemical sensor for detecting glycated albumin

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Traditional biosensors suffer from the fact that recognition receptors are immobilised and that they denature on electrodes. Instead here we use receptors freely in solution, minimising surface compression and preserving activity to boost signal efficiency. Python‐driven processing turns the electrochemical response into a rapid, robust readout.

Prediction of incident heart failure in type 2 diabetes mellitus: Rationale and design of the DM‐HEART study

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Preclinical heart failure (HF) (stages A and B) is common but easily overlooked in asymptomatic patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). There is a paucity of evidence regarding how coexisting risk factors contribute to the development of HF in asymptomatic Asian patients with T2D, and there is a lack of guidance on the early identification of ...
