Comparison of insulin detemir and insulin glargine in a Basal-Bolus regimen, with insulin aspart as the mealtime insulin, in patients with type 1 diabetes: A 52-week, multinational, randomized, open-label, parallel-group, treat-to-target noninferiority trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Objective: The primary study objective was to determine whether insulin detemir (detemir) was noninferior to insulin glargine (glargine) as the basal insulin in a basal-bolus regimen, with insulin aspart as the mealtime insulin, in terms of glycemic ...

Wearable Thermoelectric Generators for In Vivo Modulation of Insulin Release

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a wearable, self‐powered thermoelectric system (IGNITE) that sustainably harvests body heat to electrically stimulate engineered human cells for insulin release. Operating autonomously without batteries, IGNITE achieves glycemic control in diabetic mice, demonstrating a significant advance in bioelectronic medicine and setting the ...

Pasireotide for the Medical Management of Feline Hypersomatotropism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: Feline hypersomatotropism (HST) is a cause of diabetes mellitus in cats. Pasireotide is a novel multireceptor ligand somatostatin analog that improves biochemical control of humans with HST.

Rethinking Power Solutions for Healthcare Wearables: From Point‐of‐Care and Episodic use to Continuous Monitoring and Therapeutic Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, EarlyView.
This Perspective examines practical power solutions for wearable healthcare systems, highlighting the limits of standard batteries. It categorizes wearables into four domains—point‐of‐care diagnostics, episodic monitoring, continuous long‐term monitoring, and therapeutic platforms—and analyzes their power needs.

Elevated hemoglobin glycation index identify non-diabetic individuals at increased risk of kidney dysfunction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Hemoglobin glycation index (HGI), calculated as the difference between the observed value of HbA1 and the predicted HbA1c based on plasma glucose concentration, is a measure of the individual tendency toward non-enzymatic hemoglobin glycation which has ...

Functional Advantage of Central Pancreatectomy Over Distal Pancreatectomy for Benign or Low‐Grade Malignant Tumors: A Comparative Analysis Based on 75‐g Oral Glucose Tolerance Test

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Central pancreatectomy (CP) better preserves postoperative pancreatic endocrine function than distal pancreatectomy for benign or low‐grade malignant tumors. The 75‐g oral glucose tolerance test demonstrated that CP maintained insulin secretion and glucose tolerance, highlighting its clinical advantage as a function‐preserving procedure.

The correlation of dawn phenomenon with glycemic variability parameters in type 2 diabetes mellitus

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 2016
Introduction. Dawn phenomenon could have deleterious effect on overall glycemic control. Glycemic variability may be an independent risk factor for the development of diabetes chronic complications.

Recommendations for Using Real-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring (rtCGM) Data for Insulin Adjustments in Type 1 Diabetes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The clinical benefits of real time continuous glucose monitoring (rtCGM) use have been well demonstrated in both CSII- and MDI-treated individuals in large clinical trials. However, recommendations for patient use of rtCGM in everyday life situations are
