Glycocalyx Damage Estimated Using Colloidal Iron Staining
Anionic constituents in the peritubular capillary basement membranes and the glomerular endothelial cells have been demonstrated to function as a size- and charge-selective barrier.

Tacrolimus and Hyaluronate Therapy Enhance Tear Film Stability in Canine Evaporative Dry Eye Disease
ABSTRACT Objective Evaluate the efficacy of a therapeutic approach combining tacrolimus and hyaluronate‐based lubricant for the management of evaporative dry eye disease (EDED) in dogs, compared to hyaluronate monotherapy. Procedures Fifty‐four client‐owned dogs with EDED were randomly assigned to three groups (n = 18 each): Group 1 received 0.03 ...

Absence of Neu5Gc and Presence of Anti-Neu5Gc Antibodies in Humans-An Evolutionary Perspective. [PDF]
The glycocalyx of human cells differs from that of many other mammals by the lack of the sialic acid N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc) and increased abundance of its precursor N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac).

Perioperative management of septic peritonitis in small animals: A review
Abstract Background Septic peritonitis (SP) is a complex, life‐threatening disease, driven by peritoneal inflammation and microbial contamination, requiring timely and dynamic perioperative management. Aims The aim of this review was to synthesize current knowledge on the perioperative management of SP in dogs and cats.

Demonstration of glycocalyx in the sweat gland
Skin specimens were taken without any anaesthesia from four volunteers before and after a 1 hour's exposure to heat. No glycocalyx could be demonstrated in the resting gland, but it usually appeared, however, after one hour of thermal sweating--although not in all the sections.

Abstract The study investigated whether bicycle compared with car commuting, over relatively small distances, has positive effects on physiological variables, cardiometabolic fitness and CO2 output in the atmosphere. Bike Commuters (11 M, 15 F; age [median value (interquartile range)] 51.5 (38.3–56.8) years; body mass index [BMI] 22.8 (21.0–24.1) kg m ...

Endothelial Glycocalyx Protection in Sepsis
The glycocalyx serves as the covering layer of the luminal surface of vascular endothelial cells, comprising proteoglycans, glycosaminoglycans, and adherent plasma proteins. This intricate structure is crucial in promoting antithrombogenicity, controlling vascular permeability, regulating vascular tone, and managing leukocyte/platelet adhesion. However,

Significance The vascular endothelium constitutes the main barrier that restricts the transport of molecules from blood to brain. However, the barrier properties of structures adjacent to the vascular endothelium are understudied.
