Brain glycosaminoglycans and glycosaminoglycan sulphotransferase in sanfilippo syndrome

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1970
Analysis of various glycosaminoglycans in brain obtained from two patients with Sanfilippo syndrome indicates that the major glycosaminoglycan accumulated in brain was heparan sulphate. Dermatan sulphate was also increased in one case as compared to normal, whereas only heparan sulphate was present in the other. Chondroitin-4-sulphate sulphotransferase

Glycosaminoglycans: Clinical Use

Seminars in Thrombosis and Hemostasis, 1996
Heparins, dermatan sulfate (DS), and Orgaran are the only glycosaminoglycans that have been used as antithrombotic agents in man. The largest experience concerns unfractionated heparin (UH) and its low-molecular-weight derivatives (LMWHs). It is firmly established that UH is efficient and safe in the prevention and treatment of deep vein thrombosis ...

Therapeutic Applications of Glycosaminoglycans

Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2006
Complex polysaccharides, hyaluronic acid or hyaluronan (HA), keratan sulfate (KS), chondroitin sulfates (CSs) and heparin (Hep)/heparan sulfate (HS), are a class of ubiquitous molecules exhibiting a wide range of biological functions. They are widely distributed as glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) sidechains of proteoglycans (PGs) in the extracellular matrix ...
