Activity-based probes for functional interrogation of retaining β-glucuronidases [PDF]
Humans express at least two distinct β-glucuronidase enzymes that are involved in disease: exo-acting β-glucuronidase (GUSB), whose deficiency gives rise to mucopolysaccharidosis type VII, and endo-acting heparanase (HPSE), whose overexpression is ...

Mechanistic studies of glycoside hydrolase substrates and inhibitors
Glycoside hydrolases (GHs) are the enzymes that catalyze the cleavage of glycosidic bonds, which link carbohydrate units to other biomolecules. The work in this thesis comprises mechanistic studies of various GHs with experimental and computational methods.

Bauhinia forficata Link., a cerrado native plant, is used as a complementary treatment for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Several studies involving this plant have shown that it has prominent potential to combat hyperglycemia and oxidative stress. Our objective was suggest the phytochemical constitution of fractions of ethanol extract of B. forficata

Gap Analysis of Metabolic Conversions of Off‐Flavors and Antinutrients in Plant‐Based Substrates
ABSTRACT To drastically reduce the carbon footprint of the food production chain, a major shift towards alternatives to conventional meat and dairy products is required. The use of plant‐based proteins is a promising route, but it also comes with challenges: Plant‐based proteins often contain antinutritional factors and off‐flavors, which can ...

H3K27me3‐Mediated Epigenetic Silencing of FgHMG1 Enables Fungal Host Immune Evasion
ABSTRACT Histone H3 lysine 27 trimethylation (H3K27me3) is essential for fungal pathogenicity, yet its contribution to pathogen–host interactions remains incompletely understood. Here, we profiled H3K27me3 dynamics in Fusarium graminearum during infection and identified 132 H3K27me3‐marked genes (FgHMGs).

Irreversible inhibitors and activity-based probes as research tools in chemical glycobiology [PDF]
In this review, we will discuss the enzymes that are involved in the synthesis and degradation of glycoconjugates and we will give an overview of the inhibitors and activity-based probes (ABPs) that have been used to study these.

Fungal Pathogen Activity and Stress‐Dependent Responses of Grapevine Wood to Esca and Drought
ABSTRACT Biotic and abiotic stresses alter the physiology of perennial plants, with consequences for fungal endophytes and disease expression. In grapevine, drought inhibits esca disease expression, but the underlying molecular interactions between the plant and fungi are unknown. We combined wood metatranscriptomics, metabolomics, and metabarcoding to

Genome-wide identification of pistil-specific genes expressed during fruit set initiation in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) [PDF]
Fruit set involves the developmental transition of an unfertilized quiescent ovary in the pistil into a fruit. While fruit set is known to involve the activation of signals (including various plant hormones) in the ovary, many biological aspects of this ...

Abstract Glycoside hydrolase family 65 (GH65) includes glycoside hydrolases active on various α-glucosides. We previously demonstrated that the GH65 enzyme from Flavobacterium johnsoniae (FjGH65A) is a kojibiose hydrolase and determined its 3-dimensional structure. In this study, the effects of glucosidase inhibitors on FjGH65A and their
