How a Glycoside Hydrolase Recognizes a Helical Polyglucan [PDF]

open access: yesStructure, 2017
Similarly to other biopolymers, linear polysaccharides can form double- or triple-helical structures. How enzymes recognize and manage this quaternary structure is an unresolved question. In this issue of Structure, Pluvinage et al. (2017) shed light on the structural complementarity between family GH81 glycoside hydrolase and the quaternary structure ...

Molecular modelling of family GH16 glycoside hydrolases : potential roles for xyloglucan endotransglucosylases/hydrolases in cell wall modification in the Poaceae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Family GH16 glycoside hydrolases can be assigned to five sub-groups according to their substrate specificities, including xyloglucan endotransglucosylases/hydrolases (XTHs), (1,3)-β- galactanases, (1,4)-β-galactanases/κ-carrageenases, “non-

Seasonal drivers of plant–soil–microbial community structure and functions in Western Himalayan grasslands, Pakistan

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Plant species richness was greater in summer in both alpine and subalpine grassland ecosystems. Soil moisture demonstrates significant positive correlations with soil organic carbon and total nitrogen across seasonal periods. Microbial α‐diversity peaks during summer but maintains functional stability across seasons.

Microbial ecological memory of recurrent drought enhances host stress tolerance through enrichment of plant‐beneficial bacteria

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Recurrent desiccation induced niche‐specific microbial ecological memory in the green part of Calohypnum plumiforme, marked by enrichment of plant‐beneficial bacteria, especially Methylobacterium and Sphingomonas, and functional shifts toward symbiosis and stress protection, potentially enhancing host tolerance within a “holobiont ecology memory ...

Mechanism-Based Allylic Carbasugar Chlorides That Form Covalent Intermediates with α- and β-Galactosidases

open access: yesMolecules
Glycoside hydrolases have been implicated in a wide range of human conditions including lysosomal storage diseases. Consequently, many researchers have directed their efforts towards identifying new classes of glycoside hydrolase inhibitors, both ...

Biocompatible Sulfobetaine Polymer‐Artemisinin Conjugates Inducing Ferroptosis in Cancer Cells: Synthesis by Mechanochemical Solid‐State Polymerization and Characterization

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
The amphiphilic copolymer incorporating a hydrophobic chain conjugated with artesunate into a biocompatible sulfobetaine polymer is synthesized by solid‐state copolymerization of sulfobetaine methacrylate and methacrylamide derivative conjugating artesunate.

Inverting family GH156 sialidases define an unusual catalytic motif for glycosidase action

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Sialidases are glycoside hydrolases that cleave sialosides. Here the authors define the 3-D structure, alone and in complex with products and inhibitors, of the CAZy family GH156 sialidase, EnvSia156, showing it displays a catalytical (β/α) 8-barrel ...

Microbially driven organic carbon cycling at the land−sea interface: Advances and an integrated study framework

open access: yesmLife, EarlyView.
Abstract The land−sea interface is a vital component of global biogeochemical cycles, where microorganisms drive the cycling of carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur. This review synthesizes the research progress from representative land−sea interfaces to elucidate how the microbial community structure and metabolic function influence the mobilization ...
