Genomic differences between Fibrobacter succinogenes S85 and Fibrobacter intestinalis DR7, identified by suppression subtractive hybridization [PDF]
Fibrobacter is a highly cellulolytic genus commonly found in the rumen of ruminant animals and cecum of monogastric animals. In this study, suppression subtractive hybridization was used to identify the genes present in Fibrobacter succinogenes S85 but ...

TcALS knockdown accelerates metamorphosis via insulin signaling in Tribolium castaneum
RNAi silencing of TcALS accelerates larva‐to‐pupa metamorphosis in Tribolium castaneum. Abstract Insect metamorphosis is an evolutionary adaptation precisely regulated by nutritional and hormonal cues. The red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum, a major stored‐product pest, serves as an excellent model for studying this process.

Draft Genome Sequence of Botrytis cinerea BcDW1, Inoculum for Noble Rot of Grape Berries. [PDF]
Botrytized wines are produced from grape berries infected by Botrytis cinerea under specific environmental conditions. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of B. cinerea BcDW1, a strain isolated from Sémillon grapes in Napa Valley in 1992 that ...

Classification of DMTs into 4 subfamilies: two METs, three CMTs, three DRMs, and one DNMT2. The cis‐elements are associated with stress‐response, hormonal regulation, light‐response, and development. RNA‐seq analysis revealed differential expression of DMTs under NaCl stress.

Bioprospecting metagenomics of decaying wood: mining for new glycoside hydrolases
Background To efficiently deconstruct recalcitrant plant biomass to fermentable sugars in industrial processes, biocatalysts of higher performance and lower cost are required.

Ulvan is a polysaccharide available from green seaweed with beneficial properties for various applications. The full potential of ulvan requires enzymatic degradation of the polymer, thus producing ulvan oligosaccharides. This study expands the armoury of characterised ulvan lyases.

The analysis of the secretome allows us to identify the proteins, especially carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes), secreted by different microorganisms cultivated under different conditions. The CAZymes are divided into five classes containing different

Discovery of a cryptic aminoacidic triad involved in the temperature adaptation of GH1 enzymes
Cold‐active enzymes retain high catalytic activity at low temperatures but are characterized by thermal instability, a behavior not fully understood. Comparison between a cold‐active GH1 and its mesophilic counterparts highlights the role of a three‐residue motif (W‐M‐F) in conferring structural stability to a mesophilic GH1.

Fungal ecological strategies reflected in gene transcription - a case study of two litter decomposers. [PDF]
Microbial communities interplay with their environment through their functional traits that can be a response or an effect on the environment. Here, we explore how a functional trait-the decomposition of organic matter, can be addressed based on genetic ...
