Viewpoint of COVID-19 in Africa and Latin America

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Internal Medicine, 2020
The spread of COVID-19 across the African continent and Latin American region is of great concern due to several influencing factors. Large and densely populated areas and townships with widespread poverty and high migration are the most vulnerable ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

High-fidelity Cas9-mediated targeting of KRAS driver mutations restrains lung cancer in preclinical models

open access: yesNature Communications
Missense mutations in the 12th codon of KRAS are key drivers of lung cancer, with glycine-to-cysteine (G12C) and glycine-to-aspartic acid (G12D) substitutions being among the most prevalent.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Qualitative assessment of a Context of Consumption Framework to inform regulation of cigarette pack design in the U.S.

open access: yesTobacco Induced Diseases, 2018
Introduction Researchers and regulators need to know how changes to cigarette packages can influence population health. We sought to advance research on the role of cigarette packaging by assessing a theory-informed framework from the fields of design ...
