Oxidative Stress, Selenium Redox Systems Including GPX/TXNRD Families

2018
A third of the mammalian selenoprotein repertoire accounts for the two main cellular redox systems in mammals, i.e., the glutathione- and thioredoxin-dependent systems. All three thioredoxin reductases contain selenocysteine as their penultimate amino acid and keep thioredoxins in their reduced, active state.

GPX1 gene Pro200Leu polymorphism, erythrocyte GPX activity, and cancer risk

Molecular Biology Reports, 2012
A meta-analysis was conducted to assess the effect of glutathione peroxidase1 (GPX1) gene Pro200Leu (rs1050450) polymorphism on cancer risk. A comprehensive search was performed to identify all studies on the association of GPX1 gene Pro200Leu polymorphism with cancer risk.

TDC-GPX-based synchronization scheme for QKD system

Nuclear Science and Techniques, 2016
To meet the needs of signal alignment between the transmitter and receiver in a quantum key distribution (QKD) system, we put forward a TDC-GPX-based synchronization scheme, which is based on high-precision time measurement. We send a low-frequency repeat optical pulse synchronized with associated quantum signals on the receiver’s side by using a time ...

A Photo‐responsive Catalytic Vesicle with GPx Activity

Chinese Journal of Chemistry, 2013
AbstractGlutathione peroxidase (GPx) is a vital antioxidant enzyme involved in the reduction of reactive oxygen species and protects cells from oxidative damage. Consequently enormous efforts have been devoted to developing artificial catalysts with GPx function.

Gutta percha removal utilizing GPX instrumentation.

Journal (Canadian Dental Association), 1992
Two studies were performed in order to test the efficiency of GPX rotary instrumentation in removing gutta percha from endodontically-treated extracted teeth. A pilot project compared GPX to gates glidden instrumentation, and then a GPX technique was performed on 60 obturated mesial canals of mandibular molars.

Structure-Activity Correlation between Natural Glutathione Peroxidase (GPx) and Mimics: A Biomimetic Concept for the Design and Synthesis of More Efficient GPx Mimics

Chemistry, 2001
Among the organoselenium compounds that mimic the action of the natural enzyme glutathione peroxidase (GPx), there are certain basic differences in the activity, substrate specificity and mechanism. These differences arise mainly from the nature of the substituents near the reaction center, and stability and reactivity of the intermediates.

Characterization of an interesting selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidase (Se-GPx) protecting cells against environmental stress: The Camelus dromedarius erythrocytes Se-GPx

Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology, 2019
Abstract Camel lives most of its life under high environmental stress in the desert. Glutathione peroxidase plays a key role in protecting cells against oxidative stress. For the first time, selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidase (Se-GPx) was purified from camel erythrocytes, biochemically characterized, and some of its properties were studied ...

Localization and characterization of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in boar accessory sex glands, seminal plasma, and spermatozoa and activity of GPx in boar semen

Theriogenology, 2008
Boar ejaculate owes its characteristic large volume mainly to accessory sex gland (ASG) secretions. These are main contributors to the protective functions of seminal plasma, especially against oxidative damage. Numerous antioxidants have been detected in ASG secretions, and, respectively, in seminal plasma.

Evolutionary and Structural Insights Into the Multifaceted Glutathione Peroxidase (Gpx) Superfamily

Antioxidants & Redox Signaling, 2008
Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) is a widespread protein superfamily found in many organisms throughout all kingdoms of life. Although it was initially thought to use only glutathione as reductant, recent evidence suggests that the majority of GPxs have specificity for thioredoxin.

Heat exchanger analysis on a MicroVAX II/GPX

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 1988
AbstractThe finite element code FIDAP was used to examine the fluid flow path within a flat plate tube/fin heat exchanger and the resulting heat transfer from the fins and tube walls. The mathematical formulation, mesh development and analysis procedure are presented, and the results obtained are compared with experimental observations of the fluid ...
