Immunohistochemical Expression of Glutathione Peroxidase 1 (Gpx-1) as an Independent Prognostic Factor in Colon Adenocarcinoma Patients

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2023
Several studies revealed that expression levels of glutathione peroxidase 1 (Gpx-1) can be associated with cancer development, mainly through its role in hydroperoxide scavenging by regulating intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Therefore,

MiR-146b-5p regulates the scavenging effect of GPx-3 on peroxide in papillary thyroid cancer cells

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Background: Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) is an important antioxidant enzyme in thyroid follicular cells. Reduced levels of glutathione peroxidase 3 (GPx-3) expression in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) are associated with poor prognosis.

Weak uniqueness and density estimates for sdes with coefficients depending on some path-functionals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, we develop a general methodology to prove weak uniqueness for stochastic differential equations with coefficients depending on some path-functionals of the process.

Oxidative stress/lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzymes in apparently healthy individuals involved in physical exercise

open access: yesAsian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2016
Background: Normal metabolic functions generate highly reactive compounds called free radicals in the body. Exercise is accompanied by increased oxygen consumption and enhanced Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS)/free radical production in humans.

Divers Transformations Leading to New Potent GPx Mimetics

open access: yesThe 1st International Electronic Conference on Catalysis Sciences, 2020
Designing a highly active and selective Se-therapeutic that mimics the activity of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase (GPx) still remains a challenge. Since the discovery of ebselen (N-phenyl-1,2-benzisoselenazol-3(2H)-one) and its ability to act as a GPx mimetic, the search for more effective peroxide scavengers has become a “hot topic” in ...

Impacts of in vivo and in vitro exposures to tamoxifen: comparative effects on human cells and marine organisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Tamoxifen (TAM) is a first generation-SERM administered for hormone receptor-positive (HER+) breast cancer in both pre- and post-menopausal patients and may undergo metabolic activation in organisms that share similar receptors and thus face comparable ...

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.
