Contribution of Pore-Connectivity to Permeation Performance of Silicalite-1 Membrane; Part I, Pore Volume and Effective Pore Size

open access: yesMembranes, 2021
The micropore volumes and effective pore sizes of two types of silicalite-1 membranes were compared with those of a typical silicalite-1 powder. The silicalite-1 membrane with fewer grain boundaries in the membrane layer showed similar micropore volume ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

A coupling crack blunting mechanism in nanocrystalline materials by nano-grain rotation and shear-coupled migration of grain boundaries

open access: yes, 2014
A theoretical model has been developed to investigate the effect of a special cooperative process between two main modes of stress-driven nano-grain growth, i.e., nano-grain rotation and shearcoupled migration of grain boundaries, on the emission of ...

A study of multi-frequency electromagnetic responses on steel grain boundaries using 3D micro and macro FE models

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Microstructures of steels has a decisive influence on its mechanical properties, among which the microscopic component of grain boundary is particularly important. In this study, based on multi-frequency electromagnetic detection technology, the 3D micro-

Research progress in grain boundary serration in iron/nickel based austenitic polycrystalline alloys

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2021
Grain boundaries of high-temperature metallic materials, such as alloys, are often considered weak. At elevated temperatures, the strength of the grain boundary is relatively lower than that of the intragranular areas, and cracks often initially form on ...

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

Novel applications of the Josephson Effect: Ferroelectric Characterisation and Capacitively Shunted Grain Boundary Junctions

open access: yes, 2005
This thesis describes applications of the ac Josephson effect. Firstly, results are presented from bicrystal grain boundary YBa2Cu3O7-d junctions shunted with a YBa2Cu3O7-d/SrTiO3/Au multilayer external capacitor, to make a junction with a hysteretic ...

Misorientation effect of grain boundary on the formation of discontinuous precipitation in second and third generation single crystal superalloys

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2014
[001] tilt artificial grain boundaries of Ni-based single crystal superalloys CMSX-4 and DD10 have been prepared by self-diffusion bonding. The microstructural stability of 0 ∼ 30∘ artificial grain boundaries have been investigated after heat treatment ...

Wetting Effects at a Grain Boundary

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2004
We consider a tier of weakened bonds along the center line of a two-dimensional Ising ferromagnet strip as a model of a grain boundary. When an interface traverses such a strip at an angle, whether or not there is a continuous pinning-depinning transition at subcritical temperature depends on this angle and the degree of bond weakening.
