Truth, Politics and Disability: Graphic Narratives as Illustrated Hope

open access: yesThe Comics Grid: Journal of Comics Scholarship, 2020
Citizenship in the 21st century may necessitate new and novel means of practice and expression. The graphic novel form can allow for these new means of expression, especially in regards to an important issue in any society: the issue of disability.

Historieta ecuatoriana. Por la circulación de una literatura (gráfica) menor

open access: yesIdeAs, 2022
With about twenty comic actors, including authors, promoters and collectives, Ecuador has a meager circulation within the field of world graphic literature, despite a history that is not far from the general history of the ninth art. Modulating a reading

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

A Novel Graphical Evaluation of Agreement [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology, 2020
Abstract Background: The Bland-Altman plot with limit of agreement has been widely used as a visual tool for assessing test-retest reliability or reproducibility between two measurements. We have observed, however, that in certain circumstances the limit of agreement approach may mislead practitioners. Particularly, if the acceptable difference

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Integrated genomic and proteomic profiling reveals insights into chemoradiation resistance in cervical cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive genomic and proteomic analysis of cervical cancer revealed STK11 and STX3 as a potential biomarkers of chemoradiation resistance. Our study demonstrated EGFR as a therapeutic target, paving the way for precision strategies to overcome treatment failure and the DNA repair pathway as a critical mechanism of resistance.

Novela gráfica chilena : el código del terror

open access: yesAmerika, 2023
Chile is not yet able to present a graphic novel tradition in which the topic of terror is central. The country does not have a series of works that over the years has been condensed into what could be called the Chilean graphic novel of terror. However,
