Breakdown of chlorophyll (Chl) is a fundamental biological phenomenon. In de‐greening banana leaves, Chl is transformed into colorless “fluorescent” Chl‐catabolites (FCCs) that cause the leaves to luminesce blue. Hypothesis‐driven search for apolar banana‐FCCs, and structure elucidation, have revealed a striking first link between lipid metabolism and ...

Similarity and substitution: Using pile sorting methods to explore economic behavior
Abstract Despite the common intuition that similar products are stronger demand substitutes, this study shows a more nuanced relationship between perceived similarity and utility substitution. Using pile sorting, a method where items are sorted into groups according to their similarity, we conduct large‐scale consumer surveys on purchasing 21 foods for

Effect of Green Gram Husk Nanocellulose on Banana Fiber Composite
Nanocellulose is a significant bio entity in the present-day applications of nanocomposites. In this regard, the present work focuses on fabrication of green gram husk cellulose-based hybrid nanocomposites. In the process of nanocellulose extraction, residues obtained after each stage of treatment are characterized through physical and morphological ...

Targeting online sales through last‐mile delivery platform integration
Abstract We analyze channel integration between a last‐mile delivery platform and a general merchandise retailer in two distinct stages: (1) platform delivery access (PDA), where the retailer continues to offer standard delivery through its own website but directs customers to the platform's website for new same‐day delivery; and (2) integrated ...

Raman Bands of Malto‐ and Isomalto‐Oligosaccharides as Models for Starch
The present study measured Raman spectra of malto‐ and isomalto‐oligosaccharides with various degree of polymerization as models for starch. The data suggest that malto‐oligosaccharides with degree of polymerization ≥ 5 exhibit Raman bands similar to those of starch.

Rotation and Neoclassical Ripple Transport in ITER
Neoclassical transport in the presence of non-axisymmetric magnetic fields causes a toroidal torque known as neoclassical toroidal viscosity (NTV). The toroidal symmetry of ITER will be broken by the finite number of toroidal field coils and by test ...

Abstract Background Bacterial wilt of enset (Ensete ventricosum (Welw.) Cheesman) is a severe disease caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. musacearum, resulting in complete crop failure and considerable damage. This study assessed the biochemical responses of two enset clones (one resistant and one susceptible) when inoculated with the pathogen and ...

Banana plantain functional properties evaluation during water cooking processes: a NIRS original assay and perspectives [PDF]
Starch is the major component of edible banana at green stage of maturity, and is well-known to highly contribute to its functional properties. Among others, methods based on near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) have already been successfully applied to ...

Abstract Background Fresh‐cut pineapple is increasingly consumed for its convenience and nutritional value; however, minimal processing accelerates quality deterioration and microbial growth, resulting in substantial postharvest losses. Gamma irradiation is recognized as a nonthermal preservation technique, but limited information exists regarding its ...
