The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

MOLECULAR CHARACTERIZATION AND PATHOGENICITY TEST ON CITRUS FRUITS BY GREEN MOLD AND BLUE MOLD

open access: yesJournal of microbiology, biotechnology and food sciences
Citrus fruits are essential for preventing various health conditions, including diabetes, neurological diseases, and cancer. Among the postharvest diseases affecting citrus fruits, Penicillium digitatum and Penicillium italicum are particularly significant. This study aimed to characterize Penicillium spp.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Harvesting and the Incidence of Green Mold on Texas Grapefruit [PDF]

open access: yesHortScience, 1996
The harvest of Rio Red grapefruit ( Citrus paradisi Macf.) was “intercepted” at three stages: 1) unpicked fruit, 2) picked and carried to pallet box trailer, and 3) picked, carried, dumped in the pallet box and transported to the packing shed.

PIN, GREEN JELL-O MOLD

open access: yes, 1997
Image shows a souvenir pin from the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. The pin is a metal replica of a Jell-O mold. The pin opens up to show green Jell-O on one side and the official Olympic logo on the other side.

Fate and regulation of anterior-like cells in Dictyostelium slugs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
A pattern of two tissue types exists in the Dictyostelium slug. Contained within the posterior tissue are anterior-like cells which comprise about 10% of the developing cell mass.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Physiological and Proteomic Analysis of Penicillium digitatum in Response to X33 Antifungal Extract Treatment

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Penicillium digitatum is a widespread pathogen among Rutaceae species that causes severe fruit decay symptoms on infected citrus fruit (known as citrus green mold). The employment of fungicides can effectively control the citrus green mold, significantly

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
