Effect of Acarbose on High Carohydrate Diet Induced Liver Injury in Largemouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides)

open access: yesGuangdong nongye kexue
【Objective】The study was conducted to investigate the effect of acarbose on high-carbohydrate dietinduced liver injury in largemouth bass and to detect similar functional therapeutic drugs in the initial screening.【Method】The largemouth bass (Micropterus

Low-carbohydrate diets differing in carbohydrate restriction improve cardiometabolic and anthropometric markers in healthy adults: A randomised clinical trial [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2019
Background Low-carbohydrate, high-fat (LCHF) diets are useful for treating a range of health conditions, but there is little research evaluating the degree of carbohydrate restriction on outcome measures.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Clinical and Biochemical Effects of Preoperative Oral Carbohydrate Loading versus Fasting in Major Abdominal Surgeries: A Randomised Clinical Study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research
Introduction: Surgery and preoperative fasting result in Perioperative Insulin Resistance (PIR) and can lead to increased postoperative morbidity, mortality and prolonged hospital stay.

First feeding of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) with a high-carbohydrate diet:the effect on glucose metabolism in juveniles

open access: yesAquaculture Reports, 2021
The effective utilization of carbohydrate feed sources is important to save protein feed resources and reduce formula feed costs in fish aquaculture. The present study investigated whether high-carbohydrate diet stimulus in the early larval stage of the ...

Exploiting the CH-π interactions in supramolecular hydrogels of aromatic carbohydrate amphiphiles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A novel class of supramolecular hydrogels derived from amino sugars is reported, where the self-assembly of aromatic carbohydrate amphiphiles is driven by CH-π interactions, rather than π–π stacking and H-bonding associated with gelators based on ...

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Comparison of a low carbohydrate intake and standard carbohydrate intake on refeeding hypophosphatemia in children and adolescents with anorexia nervosa: a pilot randomised controlled trial

open access: yesJournal of Eating Disorders, 2022
Background Nutritional rehabilitation for patients with anorexia nervosa involves balancing the need for weight gain whilst mitigating the risk of refeeding syndrome.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.
